The Wingz and Thingz food truck will park in front of the CARE building in Charleston on Thursday, May 8, to sell burgers and fries, wings and many other foods. “Come hungry!” said CARE Executive Director Dana Clolinger.

Paul Cemetery meeting, cleanup set
The annual meeting and cleanup at Paul Cemetery will be held on Saturday, May 10, beginning at 10 a.m. Donations are needed for the upkeep of the cemetery and will be accepted on an ongoing basis. The Charleston Arts Center (CARE building) will host a ladies paint night class on Friday, May 16, starting at 5:30 p.m. The art session is free with refreshments provided, but donations are appreciated. 2025 youth fishing rodeo scheduled
The Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery near Enid will host a youth fishing rodeo on Saturday, May 17. Registration starts at 7 a.m. The event is free for children ages 15 and younger.
Young anglers should bring their own fishing equipment and bait along with a container to take their catch home. Water will be provided and prizes will be awarded.

New Hope Cemetery event slated
New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, located at 1724 New Hope Road, Scobey, MS 38953, will have their annual memorial service, and business meeting followed by a potluck dinner, on Saturday, May 17. The service begins at 11 a.m., followed by the business meeting and lunch.

100+ men and women in hats slated
The Charleston chapter of the National Charleston Day Organization will sponsor “100 plus men and women in hats,” on Saturday, May 17, starting at 5 p.m., at the Charleston Day Building, 1227 Oak Grove Road near Charleston.
Everyone is invited for a donation of $5.
A publicist calls the outing “an event of a lifetime,” and notes that the theme is “Hats for hope, history and happiness!”
Refreshments will be served.

The James C. No need to buy anything; just bring something you already have.”

Birdia Keglar Day set in Charleston
A 20th year celebration tribute to a local icon of freedom, justice and equality, Birdia Keglar, will be held on Saturday, June 7, in Charleston. The theme is “Honoring the Past. Shaping the Future.”
This yearly event is held to pay tribute to Mrs. Keglar, whose life was taken violently as she fought vigorously for fairness, peace, impartiality and a genuine respect for all.
A drum call to the community will spearhead the day and begin at 10 a.m. on the grounds of the Tallahatchie County Courthouse in Charleston. Following will be a cavalcade to the former National Guard armory located just off George Cossar Boulevard.
There will be games and other age-appropriate activities for youth on the grounds, including concessions, an art contest, a dance contest, scavenger hunt and face painting.
Greetings and remarks will be offered by area leaders. Voter education and registration tables will be available. Health/wellness screenings and information will be provided by medical professionals, and there will be community resource presenters and takeaways.
The Birdia Keglar Scholarship will be awarded to a young woman from Tallahatchie County, and the BK Legacy Community Service Award will be presented.
A guest speaker will share valued words of concern. Other entertainment is scheduled. Lunch will be served and door prizes given.

ETSD offers free summer feeding
The East Tallahatchie School District’s summer feeding program will be conducted from June 2-30, with breakfast served daily from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 p.m. at Charleston Elementary School. The meals will be offered for free to children 18 and younger.
Earn high school diploma in 22 weeks
The Mississippi Youth ChalleNGe Academy, located at Camp Shelby, is the premier alternative education program for 16- to 18-year-old youth who are struggling in school or no longer attending.
With a focus on job training, social skills and self-discipline, ChalleNGe is a nonprofit high school diploma-producing academy designed specifically to meet the needs of high school dropouts and at-risk youth. It is a part of the Mississippi National Guard Youth Challenge Program.
Participants may earn their high school diploma in just 22 weeks. Tuition, room and board are absolutely free.
ChalleNGe also offers college classes through a local university. Both male and female applicants are accepted.
