Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own pantry). Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Blue Cane plans usher day program
Blue Cane Missionary Baptist Church will host their annual usher day program on Sunday, June 22, beginning at 2 p.m. All are invited, said pastor Clint Brown, secretary Jennifer Tellis and program chairperson Vera Goliday.

Ladies paint night on tap at CAC
The Charleston Arts Center (CARE building) will host a ladies paint night class on Friday, June 27, starting at 5:30 p.m. The art session is free with refreshments provided, but donations are appreciated. Mt. Levy sets family, friends event
Mt. Levy Missionary Baptist Church, located at 881 Sharkey Road, Charleston, will host a family and friends day event on Sunday, June 29, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Bishop Raymond Carter of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Tchula.

Rosebloom sets annual celebration
Rosebloom Recreational Park’s annual Independence Day celebration will be held on Saturday, July 5. The event will feature food, fun, music and patriotism, as well as a giant fireworks show to close out the festivities. There may even be a surprise or two. Old Antioch observes 121st year
Pastor Lorenzo K. Robinson and members of the Old Antioch Baptist Church, located at 6479 Friendship West Road, Sumner, invite everyone to the church’s 121st anniversary program on Sunday, July 13, at 2 p.m.
The theme is, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart.” (Colossians 3:23-24) The colors are purple/white, and lilac/white.
Pastor Victoria West of Hayward Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Greenwood will be the guest speaker.
St. John to honor Gladys Robinson
St. John Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1100 Highway 32 West, Drew (but still in Tallahatchie County, will conduct an appreciation program for evangelist Gladys Robinson’s 25 years of ministry on Sunday, July 13, starting at 2:30 p.m.
Guest speaker will be R.C. Chambers, pastor of Persimmon Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Glendora.
Colors are red, white and gold, and Joseph Martin is the St. John pastor.
Calvary Chapel tells start of VBS
Calvary Chapel at Parchman will conduct Vacation Bible School from Sunday, July 13, until Wednesday, July 16, at 5:30 each night. The theme is “Wonder Junction,” and classes are for those from age 3 to high school.
Calvary Chapel is located at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, seven-tenths of a mile east of Parchman’s front gate on the north side of Mississippi Highway 32. Many will know it as the “food pantry church.” As with all activities at the church, everyone is invited.

Faith sets Vacation Bible School
Faith Baptist Church near Charleston will have Vacation Bible School Monday, July 14, through Thursday, July 17, from 9:30 until noon daily. The theme is “Wonder Junction,” and classes are for age 3 to high school.
Faith Baptist Church is located just east of Charleston at 30028 Highway 32. Many will know it as the “food pantry church.” At Faith, “everybody is somebody, and Jesus Christ is Lord,” noted pastor Joe Young, who said everyone is welcome to attend.

Northwest Mississippi Community College on Monday revealed the names of local students who qualified for academic honors at the close of the spring 2025 semester.

NWCC inducts new PTK members
Northwest Mississippi Community College has announced the induction of new members into Phi Theta Kappa at the school.
Inducted into the NWCC Theta Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa are Jakesia Davis and Janiya Taylor, both of Charleston.
Inducted into the NWCC Beta Eta Theta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa are Ellie Donaldson and Chelcy Washington, both of Charleston; Aleigha Harvey of Holcomb; Harleigh Stanford of Oakland; Joshua Harrison of Tillatoba; and Adrianna Clark and Ann Wolfe, both of Tutwiler.
Phi Theta Kappa is a two-year honor society to celebrate educational excellence at their two-year institutions and beyond. This honor society opens students up to multiple scholarship opportunities, including transfer scholarships at state universities like Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Delta State and the University of Southern Mississippi.

Hinds Community College has announced academic honorees for the spring 2025 term.
Named a President’s Scholar, for having a cumulative grade point average of 4.0, is Keljwan Edwards of Charleston.
Named a Dean’s Scholar, for having a cumulative GPA of 3.5 to 3.9, is Samiya Banks of Tutwiler.
ETSD offers free summer feeding
The East Tallahatchie School District’s summer feeding program is being conducted now through June 30, with breakfast served daily from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 p.m. at Charleston Elementary School. The meals are offered for free to children 18 and younger.
GriefShare offers grief support
GriefShare, a grief recovery support group, is conducting regular meetings each Thursday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., through Aug. 28.
Weekly sessions are being held at Friendship East Baptist Church, located at 3722 Friendship East Road, Charleston.
GriefShare is a video series that features some of the nation’s foremost Christian experts on grief and recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective. The video seminars are combined with a small group discussion of the materials presented during the video.
The 13-week sessions include topics such as “Is This Normal?”, “The Challenges of Grief,” “Grief and Your Relationships,” “Why?”, “Guilt and Anger,” and more.
