Rosebloom sets annual celebration
Rosebloom Recreational Park will hold its annual Fourth of July celebration on Saturday, July 5. The event is free to the public thanks to the generosity of many area sponsors.
There will be an inflatable water slide from 4-6 p.m. along with vendors and concessions.
The official program will start at 6 p.m. with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Entertainment will feature special live music performed by the Christian group “Griffith,” from Nashville. Griffith has a rich vocal sound that is Southern, progressive and all their own.
Following Griffith, veterans will be recognized for their service to the country.
The fireworks display to celebrate the nation’s independence will begin about 9 p.m.
“Please come out and enjoy a fun night of patriotism and family friendly fun,” said a spokesperson. Follow the park’s Facebook page for updates.

Jerusalem sets family, friends day
Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church will host family and friends day on Sunday, July 6, beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Townes is the guest speaker. Everyone is invited to attend.
Hitts Chapel sets building fund event
Hitts Chapel, located at 3266 Highway 32 W., Webb, will host a building drive fund service on Sunday, July 6, at 2:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Jerry Jones, of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. The public is invited to come out “and help us praise the Lord,” said a spokesperson. The pastor is Elder J.E. Hall.
City-wide revival set in Charleston
A city-wide revival will be held in Charleston from Sunday, July 6, through Thursday, July 10, at Charleston First Baptist Church. Food and fellowship will begin at 6 p.m., with worship service at 7. A nursery will be provided. All are invited.
The revival preacher will be Bro. Greg Hurt, pastor at Highland Baptist Church in Senatobia. The worship leader will be Bro. Mitch Bryant, minister of music at Highland.

City-wide Vacation Bible School set
A city-wide Vacation Bible School (VBS) will be held in Charleston Monday, July 7, through Friday, July 11, from 9 until 11:30 a.m. daily, at Charleston First Baptist Church.
The VBS is open to children from the age of 4 years through sixth grade.
This VBS, whose theme is “Road Trip: On the Go With God,” is sponsored by Charleston Church of God, Charleston First Baptist Church, Charleston First Methodist Church and Charleston First Presbyterian Church.

Veterans claims clinic set locally
The Veterans Benefits Administration will conduct a veterans claims clinic at the Tallahatchie County Safe Room, 189 S. Market St., Charleston, on Wednesday, July 9, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event is free.
The event is open to veterans, service members, spouses, caregivers, survivors and stakeholders, particularly of Tallahatchie County, where less than 30% of veterans are receiving compensation and benefits from the Veterans Benefits Administration.
Veterans Administration representatives will be on hand to assist veterans in filing VA claims, understanding veteran benefits, review-ing the status of existing claims and connecting with additional resources, all at no cost.
Attendees are asked to bring all documents they have that might be related to a new, existing or pending claim. This includes medical records.

Fish hatchery director visits Rotary
Emily-Jo Wiggins, director of the Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery Visitor Education Center, will be the guest speaker for the Charleston Rotary Club on Wednesday, July 9. Lunch will begin at noon with Wiggins speaking after the meal.
Wiggins has been with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks for nearly 16 years and is a member of the National Association for Interpretation, the Aquatic Resources Education Alliance, the Association for Conservation Information, Wildlife Forever, and the Mississippi Environmental Education Alliance.

St. John plans women’s fellowship
St. John Missionary Baptist Church Daughters of Destiny Women’s Fellowship invites all women to their meeting Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. in the church’s fellowship hall.

Guest speaker will be R.C. Chambers, pastor of Persimmon Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Glendora.
Colors are red, white and gold, and Joseph Martin is the St. John pastor.
Calvary Chapel tells start of VBS
Calvary Chapel at Parchman will conduct Vacation Bible School from Sunday, July 13, until Wednesday, July 16, at 5:30 each night. The theme is “Wonder Junction,” and classes are for those from age 3 to high school.
Calvary Chapel is located at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, seven-tenths of a mile east of Parchman’s front gate on the north side of Mississippi Highway 32. Many will know it as the “food pantry church.” As with all activities at the church, everyone is invited.

Faith sets Vacation Bible School
Faith Baptist Church near Charleston will have Vacation Bible School Monday, July 14, through Thursday, July 17, from 9:30 until noon daily. The theme is “Wonder Junction,” and classes are for age 3 to high school.
Faith Baptist Church is located just east of Charleston at 30028 Highway 32. Many will know it as the “food pantry church.” At Faith, “everybody is somebody, and Jesus Christ is Lord,” noted pastor Joe Young, who said everyone is welcome to attend.

CARE hosts Western-themed event
On Wednesday, July 16, have your child spend the morning learning about STEM with the Western Heritage Project at CARE. Focus on the past to learn about the future. Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own pantry). Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Children to make cards for ECF
Who doesn’t love to get a “thinking of you” card. On Wednesday, July 23, from 10-11 a.m., children ages 5 and up will make cards using stamps, stickers, markers and lots of other creative items at the Charleston Arts Center (CARE building). Cards will be given to residents of the Tallahatchie General Hospital Extended Care Facility. Due to limited seating, call CARE to register: 662-647-0942. Adult volunteers are also needed for this class.
