Career fair planned in Charleston
The Tallahatchie County Action Group will conduct a community career fair on Thursday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m. until noon, at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center, located at 173 Honeysuckle Dr. in Charleston.
Vendors and workforce development agencies will be represented, and local job applications will be available. Support will be offered for resume building, application completion, mock interviews, direct connections opportunities and more. Refreshments will be provided.

Hitt’s Chapel revival still ongoing
Hitt’s Chapel, 3266 Highway 32, Webb, will host the final two nights of its three-night summer revival on Thursday, Aug. 28, and Friday, Aug. 29, with services at 6:30 p.m.

An adult jewelry art class will be held at CARE on Friday, Aug. 29, at 5:30 p.m.
Call CARE to register to create your piece of art using donated jewelry, glue and other simple craft supplies. There is no charge for the class, but registration is required due to limited seating. Call 662-647-0942.

Blackmon headstone dedication set
A ceremony to dedicate a headstone at the grave of longtime educator Mrs. Parthenia Dunbar Blackmon will be conducted on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m., at the New Town Cemetery on Oak Grove Road near Charleston. The National Charleston Day Organization is in charge, and any interested members of the public are invited to attend.

Morning Star homecoming on tap
Morning Star Church of God in Christ of Tutwiler will conduct the annual homecoming program on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m.
“We are expecting to have a great time worshiping and praising the Lord and sincerely hope you will join us,” said LaWanda Powell.

Ordination service to be at St. Mark
An ordination service for minister Latacha Davis-Jackson will be held Sunday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m., at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church near Charleston. God’s Church of Faith Ministries, where Mary Davis is pastor, will serve as the host for the occasion. For details, call 662-647-1145.
Paul will host fifth Sunday singing
The communitywide fifth Sunday singing will be held on Aug. 31 at Paul Baptist Church. The service will begin at 5 p.m. Come enjoy gospel singers from community churches and a fellowship meal.

The TGH Extended Care Facility Auxiliary will meet at CARE in Charleston at 1 p.m. to plan fall support activities for the residents of the Extended Care.

Persimmon Hill to honor pastor
Persimmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church will conduct a 12th year appreciation program for pastor Andrew Fluker on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Rev. Robert McClain, of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Holly Springs, will be guest speaker during the 11:30 a.m. service.
The speaker during the 2 p.m. service will be Rev. Ronnie Franklin, of New Life Christian Center in Ashland.
Mt. Zion will celebrate homecoming
Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its annual homecoming program on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m. The speaker will be Rev. Matthew Jackson pastor of St. Matthew church in Sardis. The Corbin Singers of Vaiden will be featured. Everyone is invited, said Mt. Zion pastor Randy Mangrum.

Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church will conduct three nights of revival, Monday, Sept. 15, through Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7.

Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own pantry). Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

NWCC reveals summer honors list
Northwest Mississippi Community College has revealed the names of local students who qualified for one academic honor at the close of the summer 2025 semester.
Appearing on the President’s List, which includes full-time students who completed the semester with a GPA of 3.75 to 4.0, are:

Chatmon earns Carey honors
William Carey University has announced the undergraduate President’s and Dean’s lists for the summer 2025 term.
Among those appearing on the President’s List, which includes students who have a perfect 4.0 GPA and no failing grade in any class, are Fenisha Chatmon and Robin L. Hodges, both of Charleston.
Earn high school diploma in 22 weeks
The Mississippi Youth ChalleNGe Academy, located at Camp Shelby, is the premier alternative education program for 16- to 18-year-old youth who are struggling in school or no longer attending.
With a focus on job training, social skills and self-discipline, ChalleNGe is a nonprofit high school diploma-producing academy designed specifically to meet the needs of high school dropouts and at-risk youth. It is a part of the Mississippi National Guard Youth Challenge Program.
Participants may earn their high school diploma in just 22 weeks. Tuition, room and board are absolutely free.
ChalleNGe also offers college classes through a local university. Both male and female applicants are accepted.
