Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Pantry, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Food pantry distribution day is the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
Gateway to the Delta Festival on tap
The 14th Gateway to the Delta Festival will be held around the Charleston courthouse square on Saturday, Oct. 18, beginning at 10 a.m. and winding down at 11 p.m.
This largest annual festival in Tallahatchie County boasts a fun run/walk; arts and crafts and other booths galore; food trucks; class reunion tents; a Kids Zone featuring children’s inflatables, a country petting zoo, games and other activities; car show; children’s pageant; the “Smoochin’ Scissors” pig-kissing contest; community award presentations; live musical entertainment throughout the day and into the night, and more. Admission is free.

Cross of Christ offers fall festival
Cross of Christ Love Center, located at 173 Depot St. in Charleston, will present “Fall Into Wellness,” a community fall festival event, on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The public is invited to join for a celebration of the autumn season. Admission is free, and this event is being held in partnership with the Mississippi State Department of Health.
Various vendors will offer a range of services. There will be food, door prizes, fun activities and wellness education.

Tillatoba Baptist sets fall fest event
Tillatoba Baptist Church will conduct their fall fest celebration on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. There will be fun, food, fellowship and a hayride at 6. The event is free, so everyone is encouraged to mark their calendar and make plans to be there.
Rollins banquet to honor pastor, wife
Rollins United Methodist Church will conduct its first appreciation banquet honoring Rev. Willie Williams and first lady Renee Williams on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 5 p.m. The event will be held at the Tutwiler Community Education Center, located at 301 Hancock St. Attire will be semiformal.
Clergy appreciation set at armory
The second annual District of Tallahatchie Association Clergy appreciation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the former National Guard armory, located at 409 S. Cossar St. in Charleston.

Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, Brazil, under the pastorage of Michael S. Baker II, will host women’s day on Sunday, Oct. 19, starting at 11:30 a.m. The guest speaker is evangelist Rosie Handy of Valley Queen Missionary Baptist Church in Marks. Refreshments will be served.
Jerusalem will honor pastor, wife
Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church will conduct an appreciation program for their pastor, Rev. James Brooks, and his wife on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. Pastor Louis Cedric Reed of Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Greenwood will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited.
Silver Star to celebrate 96th year
The Silver Star Missionary Baptist Church of Rome, located at 208 Main St., will commemorate its 96th year anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. Pastor Sylvester Walker of New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church in Webb will serve as guest speaker. CHS tells of homecoming parade
The Charleston High School homecoming parade will be Thursday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m.
The parade theme is “Midnight in Paris,” and the grand marshal will be East Tallahatchie School District Superintendent Raymond Russell.
The parade will start on East Walnut Street, head down South Market Street, loop around Tallahatchie General Hospital’s parking lot, turn left onto Cypress Street, right onto South Franklin to Family Dollar, right onto West Main, go around the court square and down Cossar Boulevard before turning right onto South Cossar Street and ending at the former National Guard armory.
There is no entry fee, and former classes, members of the community and organizations interested in participating in this year’s parade may contact CHS Assistant Principal Ja’Net Blackmon at the school office, 662-647-5359 or by email to tjblackmon@etsdk12.org. Everyone is welcome to join the parade.

Women’s safety topic at St. John

Faith Food Pantry, located at 30028 Highway 32, Charleston, will distribute food from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25. Food pantry distribution day is usually the next-to-last Saturday of each month. This October distribution was delayed by one week.
Cossar park sets Halloween festival
A Halloween festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, from 4-7 p.m., at George Payne Cossar State Park, located at 165 County Road 170, Oakland. The public is invited to attend for an evening of fun and entertainment. There will be a cakewalk, sack racing, face painting and more. Refreshments will be served. The gatehouse will be open, and a $2 entry fee will be collected.

Charleston ‘haunted library’ on tap
On Friday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m., the haunted library returns to the Charleston Library for children 12 and under. All children must be accompanied by an adult (not an older sibling). Admission is $1 per person. Prepare for a “scary good time” at the haunted library.

St. John will celebrate 120 years
St. John Missionary Baptist Church, located at 331 Church St., Charleston, will conduct their 120th church anniversary/homecoming service on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m.
The anniversary message will be delivered by Rev. Tyrone Edwards, pastor of Massey Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Oakland.
