Stonefield sets four days of revival
Stonefield Church of God, 3196 Cascilla Road, Holcomb, will host four days of revival with guest speaker Michael Groce, Sunday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 10-12, at 7 p.m.
St. John will celebrate 120 years
St. John Missionary Baptist Church, located at 331 Church St., Charleston, will conduct their 120th church anniversary/homecoming service on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m.
The anniversary message will be delivered by Rev. Tyrone Edwards, pastor of Massey Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Oakland.
“Please join us for this special occasion of worship, fellowship, and thanksgiving,” said spokesperson, minister Lynn Byrd.

Union Grove will install pastor
Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Lambert will host the pastor installation services for pastor Michael S. Baker II on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. Rev. Clarence Thigpen, of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Lambert, is the guest speaker. The public is invited. Dinner will be served.

USS Tallahatchie items on display
Veterans memorabilia from the USS Tallahatchie County will be on display at CARE beginning Monday, Nov. 10, in honor of Veterans Day. Items may be viewed in the CARE Arts Center and the exhibit is free and open to the public between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. until Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Retired teachers group to gather
On Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., there will be a retired teacher’s meeting at the East Tallahatchie School District office building.
CARE kicks off after-school events
CARE will kick off its after-school program on Tuesday, Nov. 11, with a presentation by the Charleston Magnolia Garden Club. Students will plant bulbs that will bloom indoors during the winter months. The program is free to children ages 5 to 12. Classes will be at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. with snacks provided.
Friday November 14
Smith will display art at CARE
Local artist Abby Smith will hold her senior art exhibit at CARE on Friday, Nov. 14, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Smith has studied with Carol Roark in Roark Studios and is a winner of Best in Show at the CARE Student Art Show for multiple years. The exhibit is free to the public, and refreshments will be provided.

Blue Cane to honor church veterans
On Sunday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m., the Blue Cane Missionary Baptist Church will honor military veterans Dave Carter and Joseph Wilson during their first Veterans Day program. The public is invited to come and thank these men for their service, noted the Blue Cane pastor, Rev. Clint Brown.
Holly Grove will honor pastor, wife
Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church will have their pastor and wife’s 37-year anniversary celebration on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. The speaker will be Rev. Christopher Thornton of Locopolis Missionary Baptist Church. Everyone is invited, said Holly Grove pastor, the Rev. J.H. Brown.
Morning Star to celebrate Baileys
Morning Star Church of God in Christ, located at 1016 Morning Star Dr., Charleston, will conduct a fifth-year appreciation service honoring pastor Bertram V. ACS fall bake sale set near NAPA
The Tallahatchie County unit of the American Cancer Society will conduct its annual fall bake sale on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. until 12 noon, in front of the NAPA auto parts store in Charleston.
“Please come out and support this great event. The proceeds go toward assisting people in our county with cancer and to the American Cancer Society for research to find a cure for cancer,” noted local ACS spokesperson Brenda Walton-Willis. “Every family has been touched by this deadly disease. Even if you don’t eat sweets, come out and give a donation.”
Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Pantry, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Food pantry distribution day is the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Hill inducted into Phi Kappa Phi
Troy Hill, of Cascilla, majoring in Engineering Science, was among the over 200 University of Mississippi students who were welcomed into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honor societies for all academic disciplines, during a Nov. 2 induction ceremony.
Mid-State offers youth job help
Out-of-school youth ages 16 to 24, having a high school diploma or equivalent, are being recruited for the Mid-State Opportunity Inc. youth employment program, MySTATUS (Maximize Your Skills to Advance to Unlimited Success).
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Out-of-School Youth MySTATUS program is funded by The Delta Workforce Development Area through South Delta Planning and Development District.
Youth ages 16-24 in Tallahatchie, Quitman, Tunica and Panola counties are offered a comprehensive training and employment program.
Participants are paid $6 hourly for training and $10 hourly for work experience. Cash incentives are awarded to youth who obtain accredited certificates and credentials.
