Decorate cookies in ugly sweater
On Friday, Dec. 12, at 5:30 p.m., join others at CARE for a fun evening of decorating holiday cookies. Be sure to wear your craziest ugly sweater for the holidays. Prizes will be given. The class is free, but registration is required.
Saturday December 13
Charleston Christmas parade slated
The Charleston Christmas parade is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m. “Christmas Time in the City” is the theme. Anyone may enter a float or other parade entry. There is no fee, but all persons are asked to contact Charleston City Hall at 662-647-5841 to be added to a list of participants.

Charleston Christmas event on tap
The Charleston community Christmas celebration will be held Sunday, Dec. 14, at 5 p.m., at Charleston First Methodist Church.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Said a publicist, “Please bring a finger food and join us for this time of singing and fellowship to celebrate the birth of our Savior.”
Saturday December 20
Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Pantry, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 8-9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Any car in line on time at 9 a.m. will be served, but those arriving late will not be served. Food pantry distribution day is the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
Calvary Food Pantry serves from a drive-thru at its warehouse behind the main building at Calvary Chapel of Parchman. The facility is clearly visible on the north side of the highway, and is marked with a large sign.
Faith Food Pantry to distribute
Faith Food Pantry, located at 30028 Highway 32, Charleston, will distribute food from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20. Food pantry distribution day is usually the next-to-last Saturday of each month.
Webb Christmas benefit planned
The third annual Christmas “Give Back for Families in Need” will be held on Main Street in Webb Saturday, Dec. 20, from 12-2 p.m.
The event is part community celebration and part fundraiser “to bless six families, which includes 16 children,” noted sponsor DS4.
Gospel singing, games and other activities are scheduled.

Sunday December 21
Mt. Pisgah offers Christmas musical
The choir of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church will present the musical, “Peace on Earth,” at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21. All are invited to worship in song and to enjoy a food fellowship that will follow the program.
Wednesday December 24
Christmas Eve fireworks show set
The annual Christmas Eve fireworks show will be held Wednesday, Dec. 24, in Sumner.
The event is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
Fireworks will be launched from the Cassidy Bayou Bridge in the heart of town, and the display can best be viewed from the streets along the bayou north of the bridge.
The bridge will be closed to traffic starting at 6:45 p.m. Because regulations require that the public be kept a safe distance from the bridge during the show, boundaries will be established on both sides of the span, and the public is asked to respect boundary markers and to remain outside marked areas.
The event, a project of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department, is funded entirely by private donations. Anyone who would like to donate may do so by making checks out to the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department and dropping them off at Sumner Town Hall.
Saturday January 24
4-H Livestock Show set Jan. 24
The Tallahatchie County Livestock Show will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Tallahatchie County Fairgrounds near Charleston.
The event, sponsored by the Tallahatchie County 4-H Livestock Club, is free for the public to attend. A concession stand will be available, with proceeds from concessions going to the local 4-H livestock club.
“We would love to have the community come support our youth active in this program as they practice to compete in regional and state competitions with their livestock,” said Shelbie Phelps, Tallahatchie County Agriculture and Natural Resources/4-H Extension agent.
To show an animal, entries are $25 for livestock, $10 for rabbits and a $5 showmanship fee. Late fees kick in Jan. 8. Entries will be accepted on the day of the show.
Peewee showmanship and old-timers showmanship entries are free.

Free treat bags available at library
The Charleston Library is giving away treat bags from now until Dec. 19. The bags, which include cookies and hot cocoa mix, are free to the community. It is asked that the bags be limited to one per visitor during each visit to the library.
Charleston Rotary Club won’t meet
The Charleston Rotary Club will not meet for their weekly noon luncheon on consecutive Wednesdays, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. Meetings will resume in January.
Honor loved ones on ECF board
Honor or memorialize a loved one for $25 per name on the ECF Christmas Honor/Memory Board. All proceeds benefit residents of Tallahatchie General Hospital’s Extended Care Facility.
