The Charleston Arts Center will host an after-school art class at CARE on Thursday, Jan. 9. Classes are at 3:30 and 4:30 for children ages 5 to 12. Classes are free. A snack is provided.
Saturday January 11
4-H county livestock show on tap
The Tallahatchie County 4-H Livestock Show will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, starting at 1 p.m., at the Tallahatchie County Fairgrounds east of Charleston. A concession stand will be available, and all proceeds will go to support the local 4-H livestock club.

Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Return empty boxes for refill when you pass through. Be on time.
Faith Food Pantry to distribute
Faith Food Pantry, located at 30028 Highway 32, Charleston, will distribute food from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18. Please return empty boxes for refill when you pass through the drive-thru. Be on time.
Monday January 20
King Day parade set in Charleston
Charleston’s 18th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade will be Monday, Jan. 20. The parade will get underway at noon.
Gwen Dailey will serve as grand marshal.
The North Panola High School band is scheduled to march in the parade and to perform following the parade at New Town Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston.
Entry in the parade is free, and those who take part are asked to display a sign or banner honoring Dr. King.

Hill youth basketball registering
Registration for Robert Hill Youth Foundation youth basketball is underway.
Girls and boys will play in the age groups of 6-8, 9-11 and 12-13.
The registration fee is $75, and forms are available at Charleston City Hall and Terry’s Sports Bar in Charleston, and at Meek’s Grocery in Webb.

Girl Scout Cookies now available
It’s Girl Scout Cookies time, and Tallahatchie County Girl Scout Troop 30165 will be taking orders for Girl Scout Cookies until Saturday, Jan. 11.
This year’s cookie varieties include Adventurefuls, Lemon-Ups, Trefoils, Do-si-dos, Samoas, Tagalongs, Thin Mints, Girl Scout S’mores and Toffee-tastic. Each package is available for purchase at a cost of $6.
The local troop is also inviting local girls to join Girl Scouts.

Webb church month of revival set
Hitt Chapel Rebirth church, located at 3266 Highway 32, Webb, is conducting revival services throughout the month of January.
Services begin at 7 nightly, and the theme is from Psalms 85:6, “Wilt thou not revive us again; that your people may rejoice in you?”

Earn high school diploma in 22 weeks
The Mississippi Youth ChalleNGe Academy, located at Camp Shelby, is the premier alternative education program for 16- to 18-year-old youth who are struggling in school or no longer attending.
With a focus on job training, social skills and self-discipline, ChalleNGe is a nonprofit high school diploma-producing academy designed specifically to meet the needs of high school dropouts and at-risk youth. It is a part of the Mississippi National Guard Youth Challenge Program.
Participants may earn their high school diploma in just 22 weeks. Tuition, room and board are absolutely free. Both male and female applicants are accepted.
