Brunswick stew fundraiser on tap
A Brunswick stew fundraiser for Charles-ton Recovery Center will be held Saturday, Feb. 8. Pickup time is 4:30 p.m. at the center located at 30552 Highway 32, Charleston.
The stew is $40 per gallon. Please bring your own container. Stew will not be held for anyone unless it is prepaid.
To prepay, see Jimmie Stennett, Ray Clolinger, Jimmy Fly, Will Reynolds, John Ball Burnett or Eddie Hargett.
There will also be cakes for sale.

Taylor Chapel history program set
Taylor Chapel church will conduct a Black history program on Sunday, Feb. 9, starting at 10 a.m. Guest speaker will be Jar’Kevious Edwards, donor stewardship coordinator at Mississippi Valley State University.

After-school Lego Club to gather
CARE’s after-school Lego Club will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 11, with classes at 3:30 and 4:30. Lego Club is open to children ages 5 to 10. It is free, but registration is required due to limited seating. A snack will be provided.

Arbor Day tree giveaway slated
The Tallahatchie County Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual Arbor Day tree giveaway will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, from 8 a.m. until., in the USDA/NRCS parking lot at 360 W. Cypress St., Charleston. In observance of Arbor Day, the SWCD will give away prepackaged Nuttall Oak saplings and Double Violet Althea shrub saplings. CARE after-school art classes will be offered at the Charleston Arts Center on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 3:30 and 4:30 for children ages 5 to 12. Classes are free, and a snack is provided.

Enid Lake ‘Clean Up Day’ slated
Enid Lake’s annual “Clean Up Day” will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, starting at 7 a.m. at the Enid Lake Field Office. Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own pantry). Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Tilghman sings at Denmark benefit
Todd Tilghman and Matt Hill will provide music during a benefit concert for Donnie Denmark to be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, starting at 6 p.m., at Nazarene Church Family Life Center, 8676 Cascilla Road, Cascilla. Admission is free. A love offering for the Denmark family will be received.

Students named to honors lists
Mississippi State University has released the names of local students who have received academic honors at the conclusion of the fall semester.
Named to the President’s List, reserved for full-time students achieving a 3.80 or better GPA, are Alexis Draper of Holcomb and Mary Wilkinson of Oakland.
Appearing on the Dean’s List, where honorees must be full-time students and achieve a GPA between 3.5 and 3.79, was Charles DeLoach of Holcomb.
Banks makes Hinds Dean’s List
Samiya Banks of Tutwiler has been named a Hinds Community College Deans’ Scholar for the fall 2024 semester. These honorees must achieve a GPA of 3.5 to 3.9.
Pair get Maryland Global honors
Angela Billings of Oakland and Rhonda Bush of Charleston were named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2024 term of the University of Maryland Global Campus. To be eligible, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earn a GPA of at least 3.5 for the term and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at the school.
