Arbor Day tree giveaway slated
The Tallahatchie County Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual Arbor Day tree giveaway will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, from 8 a.m. until., in the USDA/NRCS parking lot at 360 W. Cypress St., Charleston. In observance of Arbor Day, the SWCD will give away prepackaged Nuttall Oak saplings and Double Violet Althea shrub saplings. Art classes to be offered at CARE
CARE after-school art classes will be offered at the Charleston Arts Center on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 3:30 and 4:30 for children ages 5 to 12. Classes are free, and a snack is provided.

Charleston plans heart ed activities
February is American Heart Month, which seeks to educate communities about heart disease, the leading cause of death in women. The city of Charleston and Mayor Sedrick Smith will host free public activities Thursday, Feb. 20, at noon at City Hall, to highlight the importance of the heart health observance. The public is encouraged to wear red in honor of American Heart Month.

Enid Lake ‘Clean Up Day’ slated
Enid Lake’s annual “Clean Up Day” will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, starting at 7 a.m. at the Enid Lake Field Office. Calvary Food Pantry to distribute
Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own pantry). Food pantry distribution day is now the next-to-last Saturday of each month.

Tilghman sings at Denmark benefit
Todd Tilghman and Matt Hill will provide music during a benefit concert for Donnie Denmark to be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, starting at 6 p.m., at Nazarene Church Family Life Center, 8676 Cascilla Road, Cascilla. Admission is free. A love offering for the Denmark family will be received.
Western-style singing program set

Earn high school diploma in 22 weeks
The Mississippi Youth ChalleNGe Academy, located at Camp Shelby, is the premier alternative education program for 16- to 18-year-old youth who are struggling in school or no longer attending.
With a focus on job training, social skills and self-discipline, ChalleNGe is a nonprofit high school diploma-producing academy designed specifically to meet the needs of high school dropouts and at-risk youth. It is a part of the Mississippi National Guard Youth Challenge Program.
Participants may earn their high school diploma in just 22 weeks. Tuition, room and board are absolutely free.
ChalleNGe also offers college classes through a local university. Both male and female applicants are accepted.
