GriefShare begins new sessions
GriefShare, a grief recovery support group, will begin a new series of sessions on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6-7:30 p.m.
Sessions will be held each Tuesday for 13 weeks at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center, located directly behind Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston.
GriefShare is a video series that features some of the nation’s foremost Christian experts on grief and recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective. Some of the topics to be featured are:
• “Why?”
• “Is This Normal?”
• “The Challenges of Grief”
• “Grief and Your Relationships”
• “Guilt and Anger”
The video seminars are combined with support group discussion of the materials presented during the video.

Operation Christmas Child event set
The Operation Christmas Child Hills-Delta Team invites the public to their 2020 Vision and Celebration Event, Sunday, Feb. 9, from 2-4 p.m., at First Baptist Church, 104 Panola Ave., in Batesville.
The event is open to anyone, including many from Tallahatchie County, who have assisted with this shoebox ministry, as well as anyone who may be interested.
Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child, collects shoebox gifts filled with school supplies, hygiene items, toys and more, and delivers them to children in need around the world, around Christmastime.

Friday February 14
Annual tree sale, giveaway slated
The Tallahatchie County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) annual tree sale and giveaway will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, from 8 a.m. until, at the Natural Resources Conservation Service office, 360 West Cypress Street, Charleston.
In addition to giving away 1,000 sawtooth oak saplings in observance of Arbor Day, the SWCD will be selling crape myrtle saplings for $2 apiece. Crape myrtle saplings will be mixed in color, bare-rooted and range from 6-18 inches in height.

Robert Neal Food Pantry to be open
The Robert Neal Food Pantry at Calvary Chapel of Parchman will distribute food on Saturday, Feb.15, from 9-11 a.m. Clients are asked to bring their own box to carry food. Anyone who is new, or anyone who is picking up boxes for more than one family, should come at 10:45 a.m. The pantry, which serves western Tallahatchie and northern Sunflower counties, distributes on the third Saturday each month.
Faith Food Pantry tells distribution
Faith Food Pantry at Faith Baptist Church near Charleston will distribute food on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The pantry, which serves east Tallahatchie families, distributes on the third Saturday each month.
Due to parking limitations, Faith Food Pantry will serve families whose last names begin with A-H from 10-11 a.m. From 11 a.m. to noon, families whose last names begin with I-Q will be served. Family names beginning with R-Z will be served from noon to 1. Clients are asked to bring their own carry-out box.

The St. John Missionary Baptist Church Women’s Fellowship will present “Love Does Not Hurt,” a program about domestic violence, Saturday, Feb. 22, starting at 10 a.m. at 409 N. Church St. in Charleston. Mrs. Tabitha Sanford Webb will be the presenter. Participants will hear the story of an attempted murder-suicide outside a police station. All are invited, noted Women’s Fellowship president Wilma Weston and pastor Darryl Booker.

Charleston Lions host stew cooking
The Charleston Lions Club will host a stew cooking on Saturday, Feb. 29, from 4-7 p.m., at the Lions den in Charleston. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any Lions member or at the door on the day of the event.
Enjoy a meal for $10, featuring a bowl of stew, cornbread, sweet iced tea and dessert, or bring your own container and purchase an entire gallon of stew for $30.

Hinds reveals student honorees
Hinds Community College has announced academic honors for the fall 2019 semester.
Among those designated as a President’s Scholar, with a cumulative GPA of 4.0, is De’anna Coffey of Oakland.
Madeline Miller of Cascilla is among Hinds students honored as a Dean’s Scholar, with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 to 3.9.
MSU tells of grads, academic lists
Mississippi State University has announced graduates and academic honorees for the 2019 fall semester.
Jaelin Deionndra Westbrooks of Charleston graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Arts and Sciences.
Named to the President’s List, completing at least 12 semester hours of course work with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C while maintaining a 3.80 or better GPA, is Arlie Strider Brandon of Charleston.
Honored on the Dean’s List, completing at least 12 semester hours of course work with no incomplete grades or grades lower than a C while maintaining a GPA of 3.5 to 3.79, are Alexia I’Kai Holt and Chelcy Jakayla Washington, both of Charleston, and Bailey Claire Wilkinson of Oakland.
Southern Miss releases honors lists
The University of Southern Mississippi has released its lists of academic honors for the 2019 fall semester.
Named to the President’s List as a full-time student who earned a perfect 4.0 GPA is Sara Antionette Citchens of Tutwiler.
Appearing on the Dean’s List as a full-time student with a GPA of 3.5 to 3.9, is Kayley Faith Safley of Tutwiler.
Free civil legal assistance available
North Mississippi Rural Legal Services provides free legal assistance to low-income residents of North Mississippi needing representation on civil legal matters such as bankruptcy, housing, education, taxes, family law, public benefits and domestic violence issues.
Application for services can be made by calling 1-800-498-1804 Monday through Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Social Security offers ‘extra help’
Attention, Medicare beneficiaries: Do you have a Medicare prescription drug plan and need help paying for prescription drugs, including premiums, deductibles and co-payments? Do you have low income and limited resources? Are you on Medicaid but still having problems affording drugs or premiums?
Anyone answering “yes” to any of these questions can apply for “extra help” from Social Security. Contact your local State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) counselor at North Delta Planning and Development District Area Agency on Aging, 1-800-848-3090.

If there is no answer, leave a message as to the exact location of the dump site or sign vandalism or theft, the date and time called and your name and telephone number. Someone will contact you.
