Food, household supplies available
The Table of Life Ministry will conduct a drive-thru distribution of perishable foods and household supplies on Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the church’s parking lot, 201 Clay St. in Charleston. This is a giveaway to the general public and all are invited.
Boxes will be limited to two families per vehicle. All necessary safety measures and precautions will be in place. There will be no need for anyone to exit his/her vehicle.

Exquisite Pearls set virtual seminar
Exquisite Pearls of Excellence, a mentoring group for teen girls in grades 9-12, will host a virtual informational seminar through Zoom on Saturday, July 25, at 2 p.m. Interested applicants must live in Tallahatchie, Coahoma, Panola or Quitman counties. Emergency food distribution on tap
Mid-State Opportunity Inc. has teamed up with the “Emergency Food Box Program” and will distribute pantry food boxes once monthly during August and September to residents of Tallahatchie County. Proof of Tallahatchie County residency will be required.
This program provides a box of shelf-stable foods which includes rice, tuna, chicken salad, tuna salad, milk, muffin mix, pancake mix and assorted canned fruits and vegetables.
The August distribution will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 4, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Charleston Day Organization building, located at 43 Oak Grove Road, Charleston.
The food is provided by the Mississippi Food Network and distributed by Mid-State Opportunity Inc. through its partnership with The National Charleston Day Organization and the Tallahatchie County Sheriff’s Office.

Robert Neal Food Pantry to be open
The Robert Neal Food Pantry at Calvary Chapel of Parchman will distribute food on Saturday, Aug. 22, and each third Saturday thereafter. The pantry, serving western Tallahatchie County and northern Sunflower County, has installed changes due to COVID-19.
The food pantry will begin at 9 a.m., and only those whose last names begin with A-H will be served at this time.
Last names starting with I-P will be served from 10-11 a.m.
Q-Z, anyone who missed earlier and all new sign-ups, will be served from 11 a.m. to noon. There will be no exceptions.
Distribution will be held in the church parking lot. Clients will drive in the one-way entrance off Ward-Riddick Road and will pull up beside the front door. Food boxes will be placed on a table beside the sign-in book. Clients will leave their car, sign a notebook, get their box and leave immediately through the one-way exit. No client will enter the building for any reason.
Faith Food Pantry to distribute
Faith Food Pantry at Faith Baptist Church near Charleston will distribute food on Saturday, Aug. 22, and each third Saturday thereafter. However, due to the national coronavirus emergency, the pantry’s food distribution has been modified. All persons are asked to notify friends and other clients about the changes.
Food pantry will begin at 11 a.m.
The schedule will be strictly followed. For those whose last name begins with ...
• A-H, 11 a.m. to 12 noon
• I-Q: Noon to 1 p.m.
• R-Z, 1-2 p.m.
Clients will drive in and pull alongside (not toward) the building and sidewalk. A table will be outside the front porch with the food boxes and a sign-in book. Clients must get out and sign the book. They will then pull around the other side of the parking lot next to the highway and depart. Nobody will congregate or have contact with those not in their car.

Tutwiler’s Harris finishes program
Tutwiler Deputy City Clerk Lashandra Harris has graduated from the Certified Municipal Clerk program.
Developed and conducted by the Mississippi State University Extension Service, the program provides municipal clerks, tax collectors and their deputies additional education and expertise. The three-year program covers 30 topics, including purchasing, personnel management, municipal law and ethics of openness in government. Participants earn their certification after successfully completing topical assignments.
The program is sponsored by the Center for Government and Community Development and the Mississippi Municipal Clerks and Collectors Association and accredited by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
CARE receives FY 2021 state grant
The Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort in Charleston has been awarded a fiscal year 2021 operating grant of $12,000 by the Mississippi Arts Commission.
The grant provides operating support for the programs of CARE and the organization’s Charleston Arts Center.
MAC recently awarded nearly $1.3 million in funding to artists and art programs across the state for FY 2021, which began July 1.
Mid-State offers youth job help
The Mid-State Opportunity Inc. out-of-school youth program name has changed to MySTATUS (Maximize Your Skills to Advance to Unlimited Success).
Youth ages 16-24 are being recruited for the MySTATUS Out-of-School Youth program that began July 1 and lasts until June 30, 2021.
MySTATUS is federally funded by Delta Workforce Development Area through South Delta Planning and Development District to provide out-of-school youth a comprehensive employment program. It pays youth at $4 hourly to train identifying career pathways and equip them with the skills needed to get a job. Subsequently, youth are paid $8 hourly for up to 200 hours to gain work experience.
In addition, cash incentives are awarded to youth who obtain national career readiness certificates, credentials and more throughout the program year. Further, educational and employment-related expenses such as ACT testing fees and certifications, etc., are paid as well. Eligibility must be determined.

Small businesses can get up to $25,000
If you own a small business that has 50 or fewer employees and were affected by COVID-19, you could be eligible for grants of up to $25,000. Back to Business Mississippi is a grant program designed to help such businesses in Mississippi recover from the economic impact.
