Free quilting classes offered at center
The Tutwiler Quilters are offering free quilting lessons for a single parent and their child (ages 12-16) to attend together.
Supplies for the classes will be provided to participants. Sewing machines, material and all instruction will be at the class for students’ use. The 12 classes, beginning March 17, from 6-8 p.m., will be taught at the Tutwiler Community Education Center (TCEC), 304 Hancock St. in Tutwiler.
Also included will be financial literacy classes and instruction on how to display and market quilted items made by those attending.

Charleston plans town hall meeting
Charleston Mayor Sedrick Smith has announced plans for a town hall meeting to be held Thursday, March 19, at 6 p.m., in the courtroom at Charleston City Hall.
Topics of discussion will be animal control in the city and the Boy Scouts of America.

Habitat plans Women Build Day
West Tallahatchie Habitat for Humanity invites the public to participate in their annual Women Build Day, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, from 9 a.m. until work ceases.

Robert Neal Food Pantry to be open
The Robert Neal Food Pantry at Calvary Chapel of Parchman will distribute food on Saturday, March 21, from 9-11 a.m. Clients are asked to bring their own food carry box. Anyone who is new, or anyone who is picking up boxes for more than one family, should come at 10:45 a.m. The pantry, which serves western Tallahatchie and northern Sunflower counties, distributes on the third Saturday each month.
Faith Food Pantry tells distribution
Faith Food Pantry at Faith Baptist Church near Charleston will distribute food on Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The pantry, which serves east Tallahatchie families, distributes on the third Saturday each month.
Due to parking limitations, Faith Food Pantry will serve families whose last names begin with A-H from 10-11 a.m. From 11 a.m. to noon, families whose last names begin with I-Q will be served. Family names beginning with R-Z will be served from noon to 1. Clients are asked to bring their own carry-out box.
Night of gospel singing scheduled
D.S.4. of Sumner will host “A Night to Remember,” a night of singing the gospel, on Saturday, March 21, at 6 p.m., at the former National Guard armory across from West Tallahatchie High School in Webb. The East Charleston Water Association will conduct its annual board meeting on Thursday, March 26, starting at 5:30 p.m., at the Charleston Rotary Club building. All East Charleston customers are invited to attend.
Wild game dinner offers cash, prizes
The annual Tallahatchie County Wild Game Dinner will be held Thursday, March 26, starting at 6 p.m., at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center, 1 Honeysuckle Dr., Charleston.
Admission is $5 per person, but the public may bring a labeled wild game dish or dessert dish for free admission. Barbecue, baked beans and slaw will be provided for the meal.
Anyone wishing to have their wild game dish or dessert dish judged in the Best Wild Game and Best Dessert Dish Contest may bring their dish to the Wellness Center from 5-5:30 p.m. March 26 for registration. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the top three places in both of those categories.
Ricky Flynt, alligator program coordinator for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, will be the guest speaker.
Door prizes will be up for grabs.

Charleston Mayor’s Charity Ball set
The seventh annual Charleston Mayor’s Charity Ball will be held Saturday, March 28, from 6 p.m. until midnight, at the Charleston Middle School gym, 17 Oak Grove Road.
A portion of the proceeds from the event, which includes a catered dinner, speakers and music and dancing, go to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

A morning service starting at 10 will feature Carl Jamison, pastor of Second Concord church in Batesville, as guest speaker.

Bethlehem to laud church musicians
During a special service on Sunday, March 29, at 2:30 p.m., Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, located at 43 Carroll Dr., Charleston, will honor church musicians “for their dedication to the music ministry,” according to an announcement. MDEQ awards waste tire grant
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has awarded Tallahatchie County a $32,000 two-year waste tire grant to continue the local waste tire collection program for small-quantity generators of waste tires.
Funding for waste tire grants is provided by a waste tire account funded from a fee charged on the wholesale sale of every new motor vehicle tire sold in Mississippi. This fee provides the funds to ensure and encourage the proper management and disposal of waste tires.

Keglar Legacy accepts applications
The Birdia Keglar Legacy has announced its scholarship application process for 2020.
The annual scholarship award will be offered to a young woman from Tallahatchie County who demonstrates the attributes of Mrs. Keglar as stated in biographical and commemorative compositions.
A completed application is required, along with supporting documents including proof of acceptance/enrollment at a post-high school institution, transcript, ACT/SAT scores, one letter of recommendation from school and one from a community representative and an essay highlighting how the applicant best carries on the work and purpose of Mrs. Keglar.
Applications may be obtained from Charleston High School and West Tallahatchie High School or by visiting the website at birdiakeglarlegacy.org. The award will be announced at high school graduation in May. The recipient will be honored at Birdia Keglar Legacy 2020 on June 6.
GriefShare sessions continuing
GriefShare, a grief recovery support group, is conducting sessions each Tuesday at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center behind Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston. GriefShare is a video series that features some of the nation’s foremost Christian experts on grief and recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective.
