Habitat plans Women Build Day
West Tallahatchie Habitat for Humanity invites the public to participate in their annual Women Build Day, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, from 9 a.m. until work ceases.
All individuals, groups and organizations are welcome to attend the event at the Habitat dormitory, located at 202 Alma St., Tutwiler.
“Please come out and take part in this day of service,” said local Habitat president Willie Williams. “Thanks in advance for your support.”

Robert Neal Food Pantry to be open
The Robert Neal Food Pantry at Calvary Chapel of Parchman will distribute food on Saturday, March 21, and each third Saturday thereafter. The pantry, serving western Tallahatchie County and northern Sunflower County, has announced the immediate implementation of changes due to the national coronavirus emergency. All persons are asked to share this information with food pantry clients.
The food Pantry will begin at 9 a.m., and only those whose last names begin with A-H will be served at this time.
Last names starting with I-P will be served from 10-11 a.m.
Q-Z, anyone who missed earlier and all new sign-ups, will be served from 11 a.m. to noon. There will be no exceptions.
Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood and his deputies will direct the distribution on the parking lot, while leaders of Calvary Chapel will provide the food as a ministry of the church to the surrounding communities.
Clients will drive in the one-way entrance off Ward-Riddick Road and will pull up beside the front door. Deputies will place food boxes on a table beside the sign-in book. Clients will leave their cars and sign the notebook, get their box and leave immediately through the one-way exit to avoid any possibility of infection. No client will enter the building for any reason. There will be no parking except in the drive-thru line. Deputy sheriffs will have authority to ticket violators.
“Calvary Chapel expresses its gratitude to Sheriff Haywood and his staff as they have cooperated in this effort to keep the community safe and to aid the church’s efforts to feed families during this national emergency,” according to a news release.
Faith Food Pantry tells of changes
Faith Food Pantry at Faith Baptist Church near Charleston will distribute food on Saturday, March 21, and each third Saturday thereafter. However, due to the national coronavirus emergency, the pantry’s food distribution has been modified. All persons who read this are asked to notify their friends and other clients about the mandatory changes.
Food pantry will begin at 11 a.m., one hour later than in the past.
Tallahatchie County deputy sheriffs will supervise the pickup in the parking lot.
The schedule is as follows, and will be strictly followed. For those whose last name begins with ...
• A-C pickup will be from 11 a.m. until noon
• D-F pickup will be noon until 1 p.m.
• G-L pickup will be from 1-2 p.m.
• M-P pickup will be from 2-3 p.m.
• Q-T pickup will be from 3-4 p.m.
• U-Z and anyone who missed earlier, as well as all new sign-ups will pick up from 4-5 p.m.
Clients will drive in and pull alongside (not toward) the building and sidewalk. A table will be set up outside the front porch with the food boxes and a sign-in book. A deputy will place boxes on the table and direct traffic. Clients must get out and sign the book. They will then pull around the other side of the parking lot next to the highway and depart. Nobody will congregate or have contact with those not in their car.

Philipp United Church will conduct an usher day program on Sunday, March 22, at 11:15 a.m. Area church members and ushers are invited to be part of the event, noted pastor Betty Hamilton and president Doretha Chaney.

St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1680 Sharkey Road, Tippo, will host their annual choir day on Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m. All are invited, said pastor J.H. Brown.

Wild game dinner postponed to fall
The Tallahatchie County Wild Game Dinner that was scheduled for Thursday, March 26, at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center, Charleston, has been postponed until the fall, Tiffany Franklin, an organizer, said Tuesday.

Mayor’s Charity Ball postponed
The seventh annual Charleston Mayor’s Charity Ball that had been scheduled for March 28 has been postponed “due to recent decisions around the novel coronavirus COVID-19,” Mayor Sedrick Smith announced in a statement on Tuesday.
“We look forward to honoring the contributions that help make The Mayor’s Ball a huge success,” Smith added. “A new date will be announced when the crisis has lightened.”

Rocky Branch will honor pastor, wife
Rocky Branch Missionary Baptist Church, located on Highway 32 east of Charleston, will host the 24th anniversary of service of pastor Willie Davis and his wife, minister Patricia Davis, with a pair of special services scheduled for Sunday, March 29.
A morning service starting at 10 will feature Carl Jamison, pastor of Second Concord church in Batesville, as guest speaker.
An afternoon service will get underway at 3 with James Glover, pastor of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church of Coldwater, as speaker.
Bethlehem to laud church musicians
During a special service on Sunday, March 29, at 2:30 p.m., Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, located at 43 Carroll Dr., Charleston, will honor church musicians “for their dedication to the music ministry,” according to an announcement. The Charleston chapter of the National Charleston Day Organization will sponsor a spring pancake breakfast, Saturday, April 4, from 8-11 a.m., at the Charleston Day Center, on David Alford Road near Charleston.

April 1 E-911 mail deadline looms
The U.S. Postal Service has advised Tallahatchie County that as of April 1, 2020, all incoming mail that does not bear the correct new E-911 address for local residents is subject to being returned as undeliverable.
The new addresses were implemented April 1, 2019, and the USPS sent letters to local postal customers notifying them of the change. Tallahatchians were given one year to fully transition to their new address. During this grace period, the post office has continued to deliver mail with the old E-911 addresses to their Tallahatchie County customers. That grace period ends March 31.
Anyone who is uncertain of their new E-911 address may contact the local E-911 office in Charleston at 662-647-2540.
Keglar Legacy accepts applications
The Birdia Keglar Legacy has announced its scholarship application process for 2020.
The annual scholarship award will be offered to a young woman from Tallahatchie County who demonstrates the attributes of Mrs. Keglar as stated in biographical and commemorative compositions.
A completed application is required, along with supporting documents including proof of acceptance/enrollment at a post-high school institution, transcript, ACT/SAT scores, one letter of recommendation from school and one from a community representative and an essay highlighting how the applicant best carries on the work and purpose of Mrs. Keglar.
Applications may be obtained from Charleston High School and West Tallahatchie High School or by visiting the website at birdiakeglarlegacy.org. Interested students may also contact Gwen Dailey at 662-609-6701 or LaJoyce Stewart at 663-417-5930. Applications are available beginning March 15, 2020. Deadline for submission is May 1. The award will be announced at high school graduation in May. The recipient will be honored at Birdia Keglar Legacy 2020 on June 6.
ECF needs Sunday school provider
