PAT license certification available
Private applicator certification training for producers who need to purchase restricted use pesticides for their agricultural operation will be held Thursday, March 5, at the Panola County Extension office in Batesville, starting at 10 a.m.
A $20 fee will be charged for the PAT training, and interested persons are asked to arrive a little early and pay with a check.
In addition, the Pipe Planner Irrigation Program will be discussed, and walk-through training provided, anytime between 1 and 5 p.m. Pipe Planner is an irrigation program that has been proven to save money. Any and all questions will be answered at the walk-through.

St. Mark plans ‘Night of Praise’
St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church No. 1, of Tippo, will conduct a “Night of Praise” program on Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m. The speaker will be Betty Hamilton, pastor of Philipp United Church of Philipp. All are invited, said St. Mark pastor Norman Small.

Robert Neal Food Pantry to be open
The Robert Neal Food Pantry at Calvary Chapel of Parchman will distribute food on Saturday, March 21, from 9-11 a.m. Clients are asked to bring their own food carry box. Anyone who is new, or anyone who is picking up boxes for more than one family, should come at 10:45 a.m. The pantry, which serves western Tallahatchie and northern Sunflower counties, distributes on the third Saturday each month.
Faith Food Pantry tells distribution
Faith Food Pantry at Faith Baptist Church near Charleston will distribute food on Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The pantry, which serves east Tallahatchie families, distributes on the third Saturday each month.
Due to parking limitations, Faith Food Pantry will serve families whose last names begin with A-H from 10-11 a.m. From 11 a.m. to noon, families whose last names begin with I-Q will be served. Family names beginning with R-Z will be served from noon to 1. Clients are asked to bring their own carry-out box.
Night of gospel singing scheduled
D.S.4. of Sumner will host “A Night to Remember,” a night of singing the gospel, on Saturday, March 21, at 6 p.m., at the former National Guard armory across from West Tallahatchie High School in Webb. Charleston Mayor’s Charity Ball set
The seventh annual Charleston Mayor’s Charity Ball will be held Saturday, March 28, from 6 p.m. until midnight, at the Charleston Middle School gym, 17 Oak Grove Road.
A portion of the proceeds from the event, which includes a catered dinner, speakers and music and dancing, go to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Adult/child quilt-making offered
The Tutwiler Quilters are offering free quilting lessons for an adult (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle) and a child, age 13-17, (or grandchild, niece or nephew) to attend together.
Supplies for the classes will be provided to participants. Sewing machines, material and all instruction will be at the class for students’ use. The eight classes, to be held in March, will be taught at the Tutwiler Community Education Center, 304 Hancock St., Tutwiler.
Also included will be financial literacy classes and instruction on how to display and market quilted items made by those attending.

GriefShare sessions underway
GriefShare, a grief recovery support group, is conducting sessions each Tuesday at the James C. Kennedy Wellness Center, located directly behind Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston.
GriefShare is a video series that features some of the nation’s foremost Christian experts on grief and recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective. Video seminars are combined with support group discussion of the materials presented during the video.

Earn high school diploma in 22 weeks
The Mississippi Youth ChalleNGe Academy, located at Camp Shelby, is the premier alternative education program for 16- to 18-year-old youth who are struggling in the traditional school environment and for those who are no longer attending.
ChalleNGe is a nonprofit high school diploma-producing academy designed specifically to meet the needs of high school dropouts and at-risk youth. It is a part of the Mississippi National Guard Youth Challenge Program.
Participants may earn their high school diploma in just 22 weeks. Tuition, room and board are absolutely free.
ChalleNGe also offers nationally certified job skills and college classes through a local university. Both male and female applicants, 16 to 18 years of age, are accepted.
