Your writer has a new device with which to write her news. Our sweet granddaughter, Francesca Holliday, surprised us with a delicious supper cooked by Lil John Dukes on Saturday night and we spent the rest of the evening trying to figure out my new iPad. Oh, it’s so hard for this old lady to keep up with the new times.
If you have not tried John Dukes’ cooking on the weekends, y’all definitely should. All the information is on his Facebook page.
My great-grandson had the honor to walk in this year’s Grenada Christmas parade playing his trumpet. It was a wonderful parade and it was exactly what we needed to get put in the Christmas spirit. Speaking of Bradley, he and his Gigi, Donna Garripoli, rode up and visited Sunday afternoon. Donna has been down in her back for three or four days and still is not feeling well. She lifted too many Christmas boxes of decorations to decorate her tree and. needless to say, the tree is not decorated yet.
Joey and Katelyn McClanahan and friend Shelby Dewitt of Jackson visited with his dad, Bobby Joe McClanahan, and other relatives this weekend. Joey and Katelyn were happy because they both killed nice big deer during their visit.
Lila Myrick went to Greenwood for a doctor’s appointment for her eye shots on Tuesday. “All I do is go to doctors,” said Lila.
Faye Hartley has been sick this past week with strep throat. I hope you’re feeling better soon, Faye.
Martha Box said she is still here wondering what our Lord has for her to do! “It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas everywhere but my place,” said Martha. “So, I must pull out some decorations soon.” Addie and Steven did decorate the trees for her. Martha said it was great to visit with Barbara and her Honey and Pat and several good friends one recent night. She got in a last dance to the Retiring Greenstreet band. I know you’re glad to be able to be back dancing Martha.
Your writer and David visited with Waylon Dukes and little son Waylon Junior Sunday afternoon. Haven Rose was visiting her little cousin Jo Pullen, and we didn’t get to see her. But she FaceTimed me and I got to talk to her for a minute. She doesn’t like to talk on a phone unless she can see you, so they let her FaceTime me. The sweetest little sound when she got ready to hang up was, “I love you, grandmother.”
Deborah McCool went to her secret pal Christmas party at Tillatoba Baptist Church Saturday and had a great time with the other ladies. Debbie’s daughter, Kimberly Beavers, has been sick with an ear infection, kidney infection and red throat, but not strep. Caitlyn and Hannah, their granddaughters, are doing well after a recent wreck. The car is at son Christopher’s shop in Senatobia for him to repair. It will look like a new one when Chris gets through with it.
Happy birthday to daughter Brandy Rounsaville, Jolee Robinson and Kim Poynor, who celebrate the 11th; to Lillian Standridge and Missy Burney, who celebrate the 12th; to Loretta Jackson on the 13th; to Lee Jackson and Myra Dempsey on the 14th; to Roy Bennett on the 15th; and to Paul Craig on the 17th. Here’s wishing you all a happy birthday.
Recipe of the week:
Cinnamon Sugar Blondies
1 large egg
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all purpose, flour
1 cup light, brown sugar, packed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
3 tablespoons granulated sugar (four topping)
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease or line an 8x8 baking pan with parchment. In a bowl, whisk melted butter and brown sugar. Add egg, honey and vanilla; whisk until combined. Stir in flour, salt, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon until just combined. Pour batter into pan. Mix granulated sugar and remaining 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle over batter. Bake 22 to 25 minutes until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely before cutting.
Thought for the day: I won’t be old till my feet hurt, and they only hurt when I don’t let them dance enough, so I’ll keep right on dancing.
