The Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort (CARE) this week announced its selection as a recipient of the Artist Exchange Grant from the Mississippi Presenters Network (MSPN) and the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC).
This prestigious grant will fund an exciting collaborative event aimed at fostering connections and creativity within Mississippi’s diverse arts community.
In accordance with the grant requirements, photographer Joey Brent has partnered with CARE, based in Charleston. This partnership marks an important step toward connecting Mississippi artists and presenters from different regions of the state and demographic backgrounds.
“We are honored to receive the Artist Exchange Grant and to partner with Joey Brent for this exciting initiative,” said Dana Clolinger, executive director of CARE. “Our ‘Charleston: A Picture in Time’ project embodies the spirit of the grant, bringing together organizations from different parts of Mississippi to create something truly special.”
The collaborative event, titled “Charleston: A Picture in Time,” will showcase the talents of artists and presenters from both Charleston and Oxford. Through photography, attendees will have the opportunity to create art with their camera and using the Charleston Court Square as a canvas.
“I am excited to join forces with CARE for A Picture in Time,” said Brent. “This new partnership exemplifies the power of collaboration in the arts and underscores our shared commitment to enriching Mississippi’s cultural landscape. CARE is always searching for unique collaborations and I am excited that MSPN connected us to CARE for this exciting initiative.”
Additional details about the event, including registration information, will be announced in the coming weeks.
MSPN has been serving the state of Mississippi for 10 years with a mission to educate the arts community through professional development opportunities.
MSPN’s main focus now is to build a community of artists across the state and to inspire a culture of inclusion and collaboration.
MSPN has announced their new initiative: Present Mississippi. Present Mississippi will focus on connecting artists and arts presenters statewide through artist exchanges. This will foster new relationships and, in turn, create a more collaborative and enriched arts network in the state of Mississippi.
MAC fosters creativity that enhances the quality of life in Mississippi communities through statewide investment in the arts.
Goals of MAC are to provide grants and other meaningful resources to nurture an environment in which the arts flourish, celebrate excellence in the arts while empowering communities to tell their own stories, maximize support and capacity for MAC’s programs and initiatives, and to advocate for the arts through collaboration at the state, regional and federal levels.
