Mayor Sedrick Smith and the Board of Aldermen have invited Oxford developer Clarence Chapman with Chartre Companies to consider developing housing in Charleston for low- and moderate-income families.
Affordable housing provides quality housing for families at rents they can pay. Some options include lease-purchase programs that result in home ownership.
"We are excited to have Chartre consider Charleston for housing development. The first step in the process is to identify interested citizens who need housing," Smith said.
The Mayor's Office is creating a list of individuals interested in quality affordable housing.
"We need to identify residents interested in better housing," Smith noted.
Interested individuals should contact City Hall at 662-647-5841 and provide their name, address, phone number, family size and the monthly amount they can pay toward rent or mortgage for housing.
"This information, when gathered, will provide the basis for pursuing funding to develop the needed homes," the mayor explained.
