The Plantation Garden Club was recently recognized for their efforts in establishing the Sumner-Bailey Garden on the town square in Sumner.
The club received first place overall for state garden club award No. 35, “Memorial Garden Planting.”
The award was presented by The Garden Clubs of Mississippi Inc. and is bestowed on a member club for establishing and completing a memorial garden or memorial planting in their community.
The open-air space, which basically was the shell of a former Sumner business, was dedicated in May 2023 for the late Bob Bailey as a tribute to his parents, Frances and Robert Bailey, and his great-grandfather, Sumner’s founder, Joseph Burton Sumner.
