President Joe Biden Tuesday morning signed a proclamation to establish the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument.
Associated Press footage of the live ceremony at the White House may be viewed here.
The executive order protects three sites that are associated with the story of the 1955 murder of 14-year-old Till and his mother, Till-Mobley.
Two of the sites are the Tallahatchie County Courthouse in Sumner and Graball Landing on the banks of the Tallahatchie River.
The third site is Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ in Chicago, where thousands of people viewed Till's mutilated body.
Jerry Mitchell's story about the occasion appeared first on the Mississippi Today website.
