The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Tallahatchie and some adjacent counties until 10 p.m. Friday.
Included in the watch area are Alcorn, Benton, Coahoma, Desoto, Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, Prentiss, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica and Union counties.
More storms and heavy rains are possible on Saturday and into Saturday night.
The NWS forecast for Tallahatchie County (as of 3:45 p.m. Friday) calls for showers and thunderstorms to be likely after 10 a.m. Saturday. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall. A high near 84 will be accompanied by south winds of 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of rain is 60%.
On Saturday night, the forecast calls for showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 7 p.m., showers and thunderstorms between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 10 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall. The low will be around 55 with a south wind 5 to 10 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts in excess of 4 inches are possible.
