The state inmate who had escaped Wednesday night from the Tallahatchie County Sheriff's Work Center in Sumner was captured shortly before 7:30 Friday night.
Tallahatchie County Sheriff William Brewer said Joey Carrol, 40, was taken into custody in Union County by local authorities there.
The circumstances surrounding his escape from the Sumner facility are still under investigation, Brewer noted.

The Tallahatchie County Sheriff's Office reports that a state inmate escaped from the Sumner Work Center in Sumner shortly after 8 Wednesday night.
Joey Carrol is described as a 40-year-old white male with brown hair (presently shaven) and blue eyes, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 285 pounds.
He was serving a 20-year sentence out of Pontotoc County for sale of methamphetamine, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections website.
"It's believed he's out of the area, possibly in northeast Mississippi in the Pontotoc/Union County area, where he's from," said Tallahatchie County Sheriff William Brewer, who noted that the circumstances surrounding Carrol's escape are being investigated.
