The West Tallahatchie High School Choctaws football program has been awarded $5,000 through T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights program for schools in small and rural communities.
WTHS may use the $5,000 award for needs like equipment, uniforms, travel costs, facility improvements or other football program expenses.
Senatobia High School also received $5,000 this week, and six other Mississippi schools were awarded the previous week: Yazoo County High School in Yazoo County, Jefferson County High School in Fayette, St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg, Natchez High School in Natchez, Greene County High School in Leakesville and Riverside High School in Avon.
Schools apply for the funding and the $5,000 winners are selected in a weekly drawing.
The wins give these Mississippi programs an immediate funding boost and a chance to move further in the competition, with additional prizes in the national competition to include $25,000 regional finalist awards, $250,000 division champion awards and a $1 million grand prize field upgrade. Public voting runs Oct. 8-25. A grand prize winner will be revealed Nov. 12.
