The Westside Alumni Booster Club, the West Tallahatchie Community School Committee, the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Minority Caucus in concert with Tallahatchie County District 4 Supervisor Marcus Echols, and the Andrew Smith Foundation partnered to host a successful back-to-school rally Aug. 1 at the West Tallahatchie High School library.
More than 60 students from across the district participated in the event, which provided families with valuable school supplies and resources to help students prepare for the upcoming school year.
Highlights of the rally included raffles for Android tablets awarded to elementary, middle and high school students. Participants also enjoyed food and refreshments and received hygiene bags, sling tote bags, paper, pencils, pens, erasers and other essential school supplies.
This event would not have been possible without the support of parents, teachers and community members who came out to encourage and support the students.
Special thanks are extended to the volunteers who generously gave their time, including Westside Alumni Booster Club President Richard Hampton, Vice President Ms. Devon Grayson, Scott Little, Coach Corey Grayson and Coach Larry Gordon for their dedication and service.
The organizers also express their sincere appreciation to Matt Hackworth, Sumner Presbyterian Church and Church World Organization for their generous contributions and support, which helped make this event a tremendous success.
The Westside Alumni Booster Club and its partners remain committed to supporting the students and families of the West Tallahatchie School District and look forward to continuing this tradition of community service in the years ahead.
