Fifty or so years ago, Kosciusko vibrated with lots of musical activities and art from various studios. The adults sang and danced, the young people poured out enthusiastically to participate in plays and musicals, and both painters and potters produced wonderful wares.

But there are other ways to look at this, and Douglas Holtz-Eakin of the American Action Forum research group pointed them out recently in his daily economics email.
The labor force participation rate, which is the percentage of Americans who have a job, has declined. It actually has been declining since 2000, when it peaked at 67%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

East Mississippi Community College conducted spring 2026 graduation ceremonies at the college’s Scooba and Golden Triangle campuses.
The graduation ceremony on the Scooba campus took place May 7 on Sullivan-Windham Field. Two graduation ceremonies followed on May 8 in the Lyceum Auditorium on EMCC’s Golden Triangle campus, with a morning commencement for students in academic programs and an afternoon commencement for career technical students.

Ashleigh Czarnik of Kosciusko (39090) has been named to Southern New Hampshire University's Spring 2026 Dean's List. The spring terms run from January to May.
Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 for the reporting term are named to the Dean's List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.

Anne Phillips, a English major from French Camp, Mississippi, is among 24 Mississippi State seniors inducted into the Gamma of Mississippi Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa for 2026.
Among the top 10% of their graduating class, Phi Beta Kappa inductees have completed a broad range of liberal arts and sciences coursework, including foreign language and mathematics.
The Phi Beta Kappa Society was founded in 1776. Only 10% of U.S. colleges and universities have PBK chapters. Noteworthy members include 17 U.S. presidents, 42 U.S. Supreme Court justices and more than 150 Nobel laureates.

Seven teams left the USM Softball Complex with golden gloves for their schools’ trophy cases after winning 2026 MHSAA softball championships. North State champions won six of the seven titles.
7A – Hernando defeated Ocean Springs 9-7 in the decisive game, overcoming a 7-4 deficit with five runs in the sixth. Anna Claire Cox homered twice for Hernando in the 10-4 win in the series opener. Ocean Springs forced a third game with a 4-2 victory behind a two hitter by Emma Franklin.

Kosciusko senior Carson Philyaw was chosen for the North team at the 2026 Crossroads Diamond Club D.M. Howie 4A/5A All-Star baseball games.
The games will be played at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, the first game at 6 p.m. Wednesday May 27, followed by the second game the next morning at 10 a.m. Philyaw was named to the Region 4-4A all-star first team.
