TUTWILER — Police have announced an arrest in the March 2021 slaying of 27-year-old O'Aubrey Hilson Jr. of Tutwiler.
Tutwiler Police Chief Carlos Thompson said Friday that Jakerrius Jachun Gill, 25, of 116 Martha St., Tutwiler, has been charged with murder and is being held on a bond of $850,000.
"After three years of investigation ... O'Aubrey Hilson's murder case has come to a close," Thompson said.
Gill is accused of killing Hilson during the early-morning hours of March 29, 2021, when Hilson sustained "multiple gunshot wounds" as he lay in bed.
Police said the fatal projectiles were fired through the bedroom window of Hilson's home at 509 Second St. in Tutwiler.
Gill was formally charged on Sept. 9, Thompson said, noting that the more than two-month delay in announcing the arrest was due to "investigation and expeditions."
Thompson did not cite a motive for Hilson's killing.
Thompson said he and Detective Travon Gilliam were primary investigators responsible for bringing the case to a close.
