Charleston, West Tally varsity basketball teams advance in playoffs

Overturned gravel truck blocks both lanes of Highway 35 south of Paynes

A truck hauling gravel overturned Thursday afternoon after coming out of a deep curve on Mississippi Highway 35 just south of Paynes.

The accident was reported in a 911 call shortly before 2:30.

The truck landed on its right side, crosswise, blocking both northbound and southbound lanes of traffic.

Cleanup isn't a breeze
Marcus Moody tosses a limb onto a pile adjacent to Tiger Street in Charleston Friday, Feb. 13. Hundreds of Tallahatchians are, or soon will be, engaged in cleaning their property of fallen tree limbs, branches and other debris resulting from the devastation caused by the late January ice storm. Charleston residents have been told to put their debris alongside the street for eventual removal by a private contractor.
