You walk through the fancy glass doors and take the elevator to the top floor. People get off and on; dressed up and looking very executive.
You reach your destination and see an imposing desk in front of you.
You hear, “Excuse me, but do you have an appointment?”
You don’t have an appointment. You haven’t planned ahead to get one. You are unprepared for the meeting you desperately need.
In today’s busy life, you need an appointment to see important people, or a reservation to be sure to get in to dine in a well-known or exceptional restaurant.
Do you think you would be able to “walk in” and see President Trump or the King of England.
What about the master of the universe? The maker of all know things? The ruler of space and time?
Well, He is accessible.
And guess what? Many people do not take advantage of the ability to be in instant communication with the great God Almighty, Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ; the trinity!
We muddle around trying to figure life out, solve problems with our limited selves, and live our best life.
If you are want to go on vacation, do you need to decide a date and plan toward that date to prepare and go on your trip? Of course!
Why do we not plan to pray? Why do we not set aside a dedicated time to read the Bible, think about what God’s word says, listen to what God is telling us, and then act on what God and the Holy Spirit lead us to do?
If you want to get something done, you have to plan to do it. So, start with a time that you will be alert and open to God to start your Bible reading and praying. You can start small, not a marathon of hours! It doesn’t have to be written in stone, but it helps us to build a good spiritual habit to know that when we gather our Bible, and maybe a prayer journal, and sit in our favorite chair with our first cup of coffee — that the time is right for us to focus on God.
If you miss your designated time, make a space for it somewhere in the rest of the day. Keep the practice up!
Scatter other times during your day when you turn to God, pray or ask His help. Are you in the deer stand and you are amazed at the beauty God created? Pray and tell Him! Are you driving and worried about your child who is a new driver? Pray for their safety and wisdom.
Research the Bible to learn about what God says about meeting with Him. Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 31:45: “My times are in your hand.” Jesus himself went out to pray, “Rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed.”
My goodness, if Jesus prayed; how much more should we! Let’s do more.
