Warm and pleasant greetings to all. We hope you are enjoying a good week.
Welcome to February. The famous groundhogs in Georgia and Pennsylvania both saw their shadow Feb. 2, indicating six more weeks of winter, but we are waiting for spring.
February celebrations include Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, American Heart Association Wear Red Day, the Super Bowl and several bizarre days — including National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, which was Saturday, Feb. 1, when people deliberately ate ice cream for breakfast.
Blue Bell has come out with a new flavor of ice cream. It’s Blue Bell’s new strawberry toaster pastry flavor featuring creamy vanilla cream loaded with strawberry pastry pieces, colorful confetti sprinkles, swirls of strawberry sauce and white icing. If you like or maybe crave Pop-Tarts for dessert, this will be perfect for you! According to Southern Living, the new product is available now in pint size for a limited time.
National Wear Red Day is Friday, Feb. 7. Wearing red shows awareness of heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in America, and symbolizes a commitment to fighting heart disease. Wearing red honors those who have been affected by heart disease and spreads hope and the importance of heart health. I am personally passionate about the awareness of heart disease. The maternal side of my family is victimized with heart disease. As a community, we give support and encourage all to be aware and concerned about self, family members and others when it comes to heart health.
Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, quit smoking and get routine physical exams. Other risk factors are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity.
February is history, the study of past events, particularly in human affairs. The month of February is designated to celebrate Black history. The theme of National Black History Month in 2025 is “African Americans and Labor.”
This is a powerful reflection on the pivotal role that the hard-working African Americans have played in shaping our country’s history. Not only for this month but for the remaining year, we can focus on the role of Black labor in building the nation through industry or community work. Let’s see, let’s take this time to “do something,” “learn something,” “make something” happen in our communities. Let’s not celebrate without a meaning, as the struggle was/is too hard. We want to remember important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. Let’s acknowledge their many achievements and excellence.
Bet you are waiting for the biggest professional football game of the season, which is Sunday, Feb. 9. Super Bowl 59 will be played in New Orleans. Good luck to your team !
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
