Warm and pleasant greetings. We hope you enjoyed a safe and great Memorial Day weekend. Sure hope things are going well with you this week.
We have experienced some uncertain weather conditions this month.
Perhaps we forget from year to year. The saying for May is “Ne’er cast a clout till May be out”— something like that, meaning don’t shed your layers too soon. A clout was a piece of clothing. May can (did) surprise us with a chill.
A late frost and a cold snap can still come in May.
Shorts one day, maybe a sweater the next day, rain three days in a row or every other day. The wind blows and you still feel the ray of sunshine, warmly. June is next!
Now that school is officially closed for the summer vacation, let’s keep our children encouraged while organized classes are not in session. Parents and grandparents can establish responsible chores for the children, make positive disciplinary choices and increase their spiritual knowledge by encouraging Sunday school attendance.
Sunday school and worship services are certainly important in the lives of children. Sunday school is worth the time to learn and practice how to care and respect yourself and others as you make God your top priority to know what “Jesus loves you” means. All churches welcome your presence. If you or your children are not in regular attendance, decide Sunday to start your summer of right by attending Bible class and worship services. You’ll be glad you did! My biggest statement I got from my dad is, “You will feel better, look better and act better.” Agree?
It’s almost summertime and this is the time we mostly think about using sunscreen. Sunscreen is used all seasons, protecting skin from the sun’s rays. Everyone should use sunscreen regardless of age or skin tone, especially while spending time outdoors.
The safety and effectiveness of applying sunscreen was mentioned several times in the news last week. Reports have raised concerns about the safety and effectiveness of certain ingredients. The chemical ingredients can be harmful. The news says only 25% of products on the market are safe.
Be careful of ones used on babies and small children. There are two types of sunscreen, mineral and chemical.
Chemical creams are absorbed from the skin into the bloodstream after just a one-time use.
Mineral sunscreens are different, as the mineral base physically deflects and blocks the sun’s rays, the ultraviolet rays. Much more can be said, but conduct some research as you make options to buy.
Remember your own behavior by finding shade, wearing protective clothing like long sleeves and light color clothing, and, of course, sun hats and shade. It’s cool too! Stay safe.
Enjoy life today and be blessed.
