Warm and pleasant greetings to all. We hope you are enjoying a good week.
Tallahatchie County Retired Teachers Association (RTA) met Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Charleston Library for its first 2024-25 meeting.
Program planning and program evaluations was the topic for discussion after committee reports were given. RTA members felt honored to receive a letter sent from the College of Arts and Sciences at Howard University commending Ayden Brooks for his academic performance during the academic year. Based on his achievements he was designated a Dean’s List honoree for the fall of 2023 and spring 2024 and will remain listed on the web page through spring 2025.
Ayden, a Charleston High School graduate, received the RTA scholarship and is now in his second year at Howard.
Ayden is striving to achieve his potential goal, studying Language, and will continue studies to become a lawyer. The university has already awarded him with a two-year stipend to complete his studies at Howard becoming a lawyer. He is one of the scholarship recipients who periodically takes the time to let RTA members hear from him.
RTA salutes Ayden! Howard University applauds his commitment and dedication, modeling the academic integrity and success to the university flagship programs.
Ayden knows his mother and family are proud and he loves the support and encouragement. Our community is proud, too. Again, thanks to all for supporting the RTA’s scholarship fund.
Saturday was a beautiful day with pleasant weather. We did spend some time at the Gateway to the Delta Festival. We hope you were able to attend and enjoy some parts of this annual event.
The event presented the New Town Missionary Baptist Choir at noontime. It was certainly an excellent performance by the group. The choir is directed by Sammie Jackson. Nina Carthon and Tommy Johnson (for soloists) were at the keyboard. Other NTMBC members were there during the time of the choir’s presentation. We were pleased to have our children from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, home for the weekend. Leslie was happy to come with me and have the opportunity to greet and meet her hometown family, friends and teachers with much delight.
Don’t forget the flu shot. Perhaps there is more sneezing and coughing this time of year. Of course, a sneeze can come on us at any time because it is a powerful expulsion of air that’s involuntary, which means you cannot control it. However, you can make an effort to cover your mouth, like catch the sneeze, please!
Cold and flu are contagious infections that affect your respiratory system. Stay well.
Enjoy the day. Be blessed.
