Warm and pleasant greetings to all. We hope you are enjoying a good week.
Magazines are featuring chefs and lots of inviting recipes for home cooks to ponder ideas for the holidays. Looking through her mother’s cookbook gifted to me from a friend, it was refreshing viewing every page, especially those she had marked with a piece of torn newspaper, perhaps her favorite or ones she would try. I did make a sweet potato casserole and, of course, it was as pretty as the picture and the taste was good, too. Now it’s almost holiday time. Sweet potatoes are in season and cooks will be preparing their family’s favorite recipe. There are so many ways to enjoy this vegetable.
Yes. you can freeze sweet potatoes and perhaps you have many times.
Remember, before you pack potatoes in the freezer you want to boil, bake or mash potatoes. Yes, people, continue to just put foods (sweet potatoes) in the freezer but it is best not to freeze raw vegetables because this will become freezer burned.
Boiling is the quickest way to prepare potatoes for freezing. When cool, slice or chunk or dice the potato. I like to place potatoes sliced or diced on a cookie sheet and quickly freeze. When frozen (1-2 hours), store in a freezer container. This way you take out the amount needed to bake or fry.
It’s not too early to plan your menus and your grocery list, especially if you will be entertaining extra guests. It’s good if you have the storage space to purchase shelf items, such as canned milk, extracts, sugar and so on. Items may not be available and grocery prices may not change either (unless higher!)
Now to hair fashion vibes. It’s called Calico hair! It’s popular and it’s blending with the season right now. The hair name is inspired by Calico Cats. Researching for the proper word was interesting. Calico hair is a matter of tweaking the exact color and placement of the highlights to ensure the most flattering results, defines hair stylists. Calico is seen with women’s and men’s hair styles. I was thinking, the style being so popular it had to have a definition. Perhaps the Calico(ing) is best left to the pros to do the tweaking. This may not be a DIY project for sure!
One other note, for those traveling from Highway 35 south turning onto Milam road, this big culvert (bridge) is out before you reach Blue Cane Road.
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
