Warm and pleasant greetings to all. We hope you are enjoying a good week.
How awesome it was to watch the sky reflections after the rain, particularly last Friday evening. The shower just before sunset appeared indescribably beautiful! Did you notice?
I learned how to watch and appreciate the beauty of the Earth. As I have said before, it was our mother who many times expressed emotion in describing how she saw and felt about the glorious Earth. We were taught to appreciate and always look for the beauty in God’s creation. And I always do so.
I love to watch the sunrise and the sunset, too, rainbow after the rain and the moon and stars at night.
There were workers in and around our community making applications at the light pole to treat termites. We notice this process is expected about every 10 years.
Do you know that postal stamps may be (probably will be) increasing effective July 12? The increase is 4 cents, making the 78-cent stamp cost 82 cents.
We hope you are enjoying the first few days of June. This month reminds us of Juneteenth, which is brief for June 19th. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is often overlooked in our nation’s history. It was June 19, 1865, when Union troops freed enslaved African Americans in Galveston (Texas) Bay and across Texas some two-and-a-half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. In short, Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. after the Civil War and became a federal holiday in 2021.
Some activities and events will be ongoing through the entire month of June commemorating Juneteenth.
“Staying Up To Speed” is an interesting AARP article. When it comes to driving a vehicle, perhaps I know all this “stuff.” Well, I know a lot. This article mentions the rules of the road are changing, and because older citizens have driven for decades they don’t realize that some habits have become outdated.
Listed were some 10 updated tips. These could put our safety at risk. Let me share two that I thought about.
» Traffic circles have become more common because they reduce intersection crashes. But they can become confusing. You see the roundabout. At a roundabout, yield to circulation traffic. Turn right to enter, then go counterclockwise.
If you miss your exit, just circle again. I made a roundabout the first time around. This probably made it more knowledgeable because I was not driving the first time I experienced a roundabout.
» Drivers use their right foot for both gas and brake pedals. But did you know there’s a recommended spot for your left foot, even if you did away with the clutch decades ago? Keep your left foot on the “dead pedal,” which isn’t a pedal but, rather, the raised spot on the left side of the floor. (Have you noticed this spot?) It helps to brace and add a little bit more control in your body.
Monday, I made some big fat oatmeal peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, since I didn’t get a hamburger I wanted!
Enjoy Life today. Be blessed.
