During this time of year, we, the residents of Blue Cane and Little Hubbard community, would like to send heartfelt “Back to School” greetings to all parents, students, teachers and staff.
To all of the teachers who are beginning their careers, or just new to the district, and students who are newly enrolled, we cordially welcome you to the county. We wish you all success in this chapter in your life. While navigating this educational pathway, please feel free to ask anyone around for assistance; they would most definitely oblige to help.
Readers, if you know someone who is spending time visiting the community, share a copy of The Sun-Sentinel with them. It’s the start of a friendly conversation and possible network opportunities.
We often say “take precautions” during the hot and humid weather. The summer heat is not to be taken lightly. It’s not a complaint, it’s a fact.
Staying inside with the air conditioner on is safe. We constantly remind ourselves, particularly older people, to stay hydrated. Drink water, not waiting until you feel thirsty. Drink less sugary and caffeinated beverages.
Watch for dizziness, headaches, nausea, sweating and confusion, as these are some signs that the body is overheated or maybe a stroke or something else is happening. Don’t hesitate to get help!
Older people are encouraged to keep in contact with someone who can quickly reach them if an emergency should happen. Be a friendly neighbor. We appreciate our friends and neighbors who are especially caring. We know you, too, have someone who is especially caring, just as you care for others.
Here’s a rule for the road as you stay up to speed. All states have the “Move Over” law. When you’re driving in the right lane and see a construction crew, emergency crew, utility vehicle, law enforcement, ambulance or others on the side of the road, drivers must move to the next lane. The law carries a fine which can be imposed for drivers who do not comply. If it’s not safe to move over, the driver must significantly slow down.
There are still some drivers who seem to be in a hurry or simply taking a chance. We must be mindful of the road rules and driving ethics to stay safe and confident.
Kitchen note: Your air fryer is good for cooking bacon. Don’t overcrowd the tray and don’t let slices overlap. A 350 degree temp is good. Cooking higher will make fat smoke and a lower temp will not allow bacon to brown. It takes 7 to 12 minutes to cook, according to the thickness of the slices.
