Warm and pleasant greetings to all. We hope you are enjoying a good week.
Our community was saddened to have news that Chiquita Bearden Oliver, former resident of the Blue Cane community, passed. Chiquita grew up in the community and graduated from Charleston High School. She was the eldest daughter of the late Tanzil Bearden.
It’s always a pleasure when we are out and about seeing familiar faces and have the chance to exchange warm greetings. Everyone was cordial and enjoying the pleasant days of October. Many times you don’t have an opportunity to speak, however it is good when recognizing others.
It makes our day/week.
We hope the school fall break was good for everyone and students carried home a good report card.
Didn’t have these breaks when our children were in school. It can be a good time for parents and children, not just having self moments, but doing home assignments that family members can enjoy and appreciate this time of year. It could be in one’s favor since the holidays are coming soon!
It’s time for flu shots and other immunizations offered or recommended for this time of the year. We hear and read where the flu season has started early this year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced back in March recommendations to update the 2026-2027 influenza vaccines. “It’s three virus components, a change to protect A(H3N2) sub clade K virus that spread widely during 2025/2026 season.” (CDC)
It is important to know health experts recommend getting vaccinated in September and October, ideally before Thanksgiving, since immunity peaks over four to six months.
Even though the flu season may be moderate, there is still an increase with tests showing positive flu.
Flu is flu.
Perhaps we don’t, and maybe never will, offer a hug or handshake as often as we once did before COVID. Hugs, in particular, and handshakes are ways to spread a virus. Please keep your tissue in reach so you can quickly cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. Do this always, when you are home alone or out and about.
Turning your head doesn’t count! Remember to wash your hands often. CDC says a 20-second wash is effective.
Remember to never borrow trouble. Imaginary things are harder to bear than real ones.
Think about getting that flu shot and act upon it. It could save you from getting the sickness.
Be blessed.
