Warm and pleasant greetings. We hope you are enjoying a good week.
Food preservation was one task I enjoyed years back. It takes skill and energy to achieve. I didn’t want this season to go by without reminiscing about one of my familiar tasks.
I made one pint of pear preserves, with just enough left to sample for breakfast the next morning. Yes, it’s perfect and delicious! We thought the pear tree had run its course, but our friendly neighbor pruned it at the right time and seemingly it’s going to survive now.
Our Sunday School Bible studies have been divinely planned for “times like these.” When Christians scroll their phone before reaching for their Bibles, rush to work without prayer, and take the Lord’s Supper just to be taking it because you’ve been baptized, they echo the same disconnect the prophet Jeremiah (chapter 7) addresses to the people in Judah.
True worship is about more than “lifting holy hands” in church, it is about using those hands to lift others, making choices that honor God and allowing your relationship with Him to shape every aspect of your life and conduct.
October is Pastor Appreciation Month, but many churches choose their own time for traditional reasons and have done so for years.
Specifically, it’s a time to recognize and show gratitude for the work and dedication of pastors and other religious leaders. The tradition was started in the mid- 1990s when Focus On the Family, an organization led by Dr. James Dobson (1936-2025) led the ministry. He was an evangelist, author and child psychologist. Focus on the Family was a Christian organization focused on family values. Perhaps, you remember the program as I do.
Members can show appreciation all along, but it’s good to take time together to show love and support. As believers, Christians or churchgoers, we can do our best to give support through prayers, action and cooperation as we witness to the word of God.
To all pastors and religious leaders, may the blessings of strength, peace and love forever be with you as you give devotions and dedication in providing sound teaching and preaching.
We were talking with neighbor Joseph Wilson and he was so excited telling about a special program Blue Cane Church has on its calendar this year for the first time. He asked that we mention this announcement.
Blue Cane Church will conduct a special service Nov. 16 honoring all veterans in observance of Veterans Day. Mr. Wilson is chairman and along with the church family is inviting all units of veterans to make plans to attend. He would be pleased if participants come dressed in uniform or bring uniforms for display. His hope is that all or as many different units can be represented. Everyone is invited to attend and show appreciation to the veterans.
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
