TUTWILER — The nearly two-week-long search for a missing local man led to the discovery of his remains Sunday morning.
Tutwiler Police Chief Carlos Thompson said the body of James Love, 60, of 271 Hopson St., Tutwiler, was found at about 11 a.m. Sunday in a dugout at Ballers Park just off Hancock Avenue.
Thompson said the body was fully clothed and there were no signs of foul play.
Tallahatchie County Coroner Anthony Hawkins said he is still investigating the cause of death but will not order an autopsy.
Based on the condition of the remains, the chief estimated that the man had been dead since shortly after he went missing on Nov. 4.
Love, whom the chief said was known to frequent the area where his body was located, suffered from several health conditions, Thompson noted.
Coahoma County Search and Rescue, the Tutwiler Police Department and a volunteer search party organized by Ernestine Greer were involved in the search, the chief added.
Hawkins said Benevolent Aid and Burial Society of Tutwiler will handle arrangements.
