Fugitive Ewel "Bubba" Scott, who has been the subject of a large-scale intensive manhunt near the intersection of Tallahatchie, Panola and Yalobusha counties tor the better part of four days, was finally captured about 10:38 Thursday morning near the intersection of Mudlilne and Howard roads north of Charleston.
"We got a tip this morning that he was in a vacant house on Howard Road," Tallahatchie County Jimmy Fly said via telephone Thursday morning. "Panola and Tallahatchie county officials responded and set up a perimeter and were able to locate him in a field. He tried to run and hide, but he was spotted and taken into custody.

Panola County Sheriff Shane Phelps chased Scott, who was on foot, in his vehicle and followed him into a field, where he found him lying on the ground trying to hide.
Fly said Scott did not offer any resistance when being taken into custody.
"Nobody was injured," said Fly. "He's safe and our law enforcement is safe."
Scott, 44, a former resident of Enid in Tallahatchie County and more recently of near Batesville in Panola County, is a suspect for multiple charges, including grand larceny, burglary, malicious mischief, and felon in possession of a firearm in Tallahatchie as well as a slew of other charges in Panola.
In 2020, he was sentenced to two years for felony taking of a motor vehicle and five years for escaping from the Yalobusha County Detention Center in Water Valley — a total of seven years.
He was released from prison by the Mississippi Department of Corrections on Oct. 16, 2024, according to Fly, citing information in an MDOC database.
