Bring on 2026! It is here and the CARE schedule is filling up fast, even into the summer months. (And yes, we have even started planning those summer camps with a few new camps on the schedule.) Not to get ahead of myself, let’s focus on January and into February, because those months are starting off with so many wonderful classes and events to keep you busy.
We have resumed our after- school programs on Tuesdays at 3:30 and 4:30 for students ages 5 to 12. While providing arts education opportunities to children, these classes are also filled with fun and taught by a wonderful group of instructors. Snacks are provided at the conclusion of each class, and did I mention that they are free thanks to support from the Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation?
Ladies’ Paint Night will begin again on Friday, Jan. 23, with instructor Gay-Lyn Haynes. Paint nights are filled with simple paint techniques, good food and lots of laughter. They are free to the community, but we do appreciate donations from attendees to cover the cost of materials and instructor fees. Don’t forget to register, because our seats fill very quickly.
Before we move into February, we will end January with a one-of-a-kind celebration. The Krewe of CARE will celebrate Carnival season by hosting a Mardi Gras celebration on Jan. 31. Beads, balloons, masks, appetizers and beverages will fill the evening with fun as our DJ keeps the music flowing. Purchasing your ticket, which will be accompanied by a complementary mask, will ensure your entry into this party. Wear your mask as is, or spruce it up for an opportunity to win a prize.
As we begin to age, and we all hate to admit it, everything needs a little more “maintenance.” And, although she is still beautiful, the CARE Arts Center is no exception to that statement. With the help of the community, we were able to repair the third floor a few summers ago. It is time now to make repairs to the first floor. We are noticing that the plaster is also crumbling on this level due to moisture. So, we have rolled up our sleeves and are working to organize funding to complete these repairs. Funds from the Mardi Gras event will be designated for these repairs to our Arts Center.
What are your next steps? Pull out that calendar. Mark these dates on it. Call CARE to purchase your Mardi Gras tickets. We can’t wait to see you at CARE in 2026!
