Many of our Gateway items are packed away for another year, and we will begin the planning process for the Gateway to the Delta Festival 2027 in February.
However, our calendar is filling up quickly with events and classes throughout November and the December holiday season. Annual favorites such as Cookies with Santa, Holiday Market and ladies paint nights are scheduled, while local children will continue to meet on Tuesday afternoon for art, dance, karate and much more.
New this year is a Community Christmas Reception and Art Show which is scheduled for Dec. 11. We will share more information later.
We are excited to announce that John Allison has selected our CARE Gallery to share and sign copies of his new book, “My Mississippi Summers,” on Friday, Nov. 6, at 6 o’clock that evening. In this intimate blend of storytelling and photography, John invites readers to walk beside him through those long, hot Delta days.
His short stories capture the humor, grit, and wonder of childhood summers spent in a place where music rose from porches, fields, and juke joints like heat off the highway. Together with his comrades and relatives from the rural Mississippi Delta farming community of Tippo, John engaged in shenanigans unthinkable in the metropolis of New York.
Part memoir, part photographic tribute, part journey through the soul of the Delta, this book offers a rare glimpse into the roots of a musical giant — legendary musician Mose Allison, and the memories of the son who walked those roads with him.
A limited number of books will be available for purchase on the evening of Nov. 6, and the book is also available for purchase on Amazon. Reach out to CARE for more information regarding this event: 662-647-0942.
