Charleston Athletics enjoyed another strong week of competition, highlighted by victories in middle school football and high school volleyball, along with an impressive showing by the cross-country program at the South Panola XC Classic.
The week began last Tuesday with Charleston Middle School (CMS) football earning a victory over Coffeeville. The young Tigers continue to show progress as they gain valuable experience.
The Charleston High School (CHS) Lady Tiger volleyball team followed with back-to-back victories, traveling to North Panola Wednesday and coming away with a win before returning home Thursday to defeat M.S. Palmer in a division matchup.
Friday night, CHS welcomed Class 5A Clarksdale to Tiger Stadium. The Tigers faced a tough challenge and battled throughout the night before falling 30-20. The Tigers competed hard against a larger-school opponent and showed plenty to build on moving forward.

CHS and CMS closed out the week Saturday with an impressive showing at the South Panola XC Classic, where 11 Charleston runners competed.
The CHS girls turned in one of the day’s top performances, finishing third overall as a team with 70 points. Carmis Hill led the Lady Tigers with a 10th-place finish in the 5K, posting a time of 30:40.35. Ke’Asyah Lee placed 26th (34:30.77), London Bradley finished 30th (35:40.73), Makenzie Tinnon placed 31st (35:50.59), Makayla Taylor finished 32nd (36:22.41), and Skylar Tellis placed 34th (36:40.61).
In the CHS boys’ 5K, Amarius Hudson earned a top-10 finish, placing ninth with a time of 21:34.95. Jaiden Nunaley finished 13th with a time of 22:07.44.
The CMS boys also had a strong day in the 3K. Keenan James led the Tigers with a fourth-place finish (13:17.50). Keagan James finished ninth (15:18.18), while Aiden Pickens placed 17th (18:43.87).
The performance at South Panola was another encouraging step for the CHS and CMS cross-country programs. With the high school girls placing third as a team and Charleston producing several top-10 individual finishes, there is plenty of reason for optimism as our runners continue working toward championship competition later in the season.
