Sections of old, broken-down fencing were removed and numerous ditches cleared out as part of a recent cleanup project at the Charleston City Cemetery.
"The Charleston Cemetery Association would like to thank the Charleston Recovery Center, Sheriff Jimmy Fly and Mayor Sedrick Smith for help with the cleanup at the cemetery this past week," said cemetery association spokesperson Pam McFerrin.
McFerrin said Smith and city crews "are going to remove the brush that was cut down and spray the ditches to help keep maintenance down."
She added, "This was a great joint effort and we greatly appreciate it. Ride by and notice the change!"
