The Charleston High School Tigers have announced the postponement of planned homecoming festivities and the homecoming football game by three weeks.
An official statement from the East Tallahatchie School District central office shortly before 1 p.m. today noted, "Due to circumstances beyond our control, Charleston High School's homecoming and related festivities have been rescheduled. The homecoming festivities will now take place the week of October 20, 2025, and a game is scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2025."
ETSD Athletic Director LaDon Taylor said the reshuffling was necessary after Charleston's scheduled opponent for the original Oct. 3 homecoming game date, the Mobile (Alabama) Christian High School Leopards, called Thursday to say that they were canceling their planned trip to Charleston.
Taylor would not state a reason on the record, but he noted that the cancellation was not the fault of Charleston.
Due to the cancellation, Taylor said Friday, Oct. 3, will now be an open date for the CHS football team — their second after an Aug. 29 open date on what would have been the first game of the season.
The homecoming game on Oct. 24, Charleston's next available home date, will bring the Northside Gators of Shelby to Tiger Stadium for an important Region 3-2A showdown. Northside is presently 3-0 on the season.
