The Charleston Recovery Center is now operating a house of worship next door, and the public is invited to attend the once-weekly church service at 5 p.m. on Sundays.
The aptly named "Recovery Church" is located at 30550 Mississippi Highway 32, about two miles east of Charleston, in a building that last housed the congregation of Community Church of God.
When that church ceased to function, Charleston Church of God facilitated an arrangement whereby the building could host worship services for the Recovery Center that were previously conducted in the rear of the center, at 30552 Highway 32.
Eddie Hargett, a member of Charleston Church of God and board president of the nonprofit City on a Hill Ministries, which oversees the Recovery Center, said center co-executive directors, Chris Gray and Sherry Jones-Gray, will serve as “worship leaders” for the “contemporary praise and worship services” at the Recovery Church. Various speakers will come in and preach, Hargett noted.
He noted that no special functions are currently planned for the church, but added that "moving forward, we'll certainly have something periodically."
“All people from all denominations are welcome to come,” he said, urging anyone with questions to contact center program director Nason Johnson at 662-310-2941.
