The 2025 National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 1, will be observed during a pair of noontime events in Tallahatchie County.
- In Charleston, Rev. Joe May, pastor, will lead a program around the flagpole on the west side of Charleston First Baptist Church.
- In Sumner, Rev. Willie Williams and others will lead a 30-minute program outside the Tallahatchie County Courthouse.
Everyone is invited to gather to pray.
The theme for this year’s 74th annual National Day of Prayer is “Pour Out to the God of Hope and Be Filled,” inspired by Romans 15:13: “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
The National Day of Prayer exists “to mobilize unified public prayer for America.”
An April 17, 1952, bill was passed, saying: “The president shall set aside and proclaim a suitable day each year, other than a Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer, on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.”
