The Charleston High School Tigers' varsity football season came to a close Friday night with a 61-40 loss to the East Webster Wolverines in the third round of the 2A state playoffs.
Charleston finished the season 8-3 while East Webster improved to 12-1.
East Webster opened the game by taking a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
At the close of the first period, the Wolverines led the Tigers 20-8.
Charleston cut their deficit to four points, 26-22, at the half.
The Wolverines went up 40-22 with 5:27 in the third quarter and led 47-28 heading into the final frame.
The Tigers pulled to within 54-40 with 4:24 left in the contest.
The Wolverines iced the game on a last-minute pick-6 and PAT.
