Dozens of Charleston-area families received food, toys and more during a recent Gifts of Love Inc. distribution in the city.
The December event was conducted on the grounds of the former National Guard armory on South Cossar.
A tractor trailer load of items was presented to local residents during the giveaway.
Sterlyn Howell, the CEO of the nonprofit Gifts of Love Inc. and its associate company, A-One Staffing LLC, both of Memphis, is a native of Batesville and has spearheaded many such annual distributions around Christmastime in cities across the area.
Andre Robinson, an official with A-One Staffing, said Howell knows the importance.
“Growing up in such a poverty-stricken area, Ms. Howell is very aware of the needs of many northern Mississippi cities and towns,” he said. “This organization has been one of her ways of endeavoring to give back, and help the needy in these communities.”
Robinson lauded the cooperation of city officials, particularly Mayor Sedrick Smith, in making the recent distribution possible.
