MYRTLE — For the first time since 2013, the Charleston High School Lady Tigers are region champions in basketball.
The No. 3 seed CHS girls won the title with a 46-38 win over No. 1 seed Potts Camp in the Region 2-2A tournament championship game here Friday night.
They earned the right to compete there after upending the 2 seed Myrtle Lady Hawks 36-28 on Thursday.
The state playoffs open Monday, Feb. 13, and the Lady Tigers will enter as a 1 seed by virtue of their region crown.
In that match, the CHS girls (12-9) play host to the Region 4 No. 4 seed Bruce Lady Trojans (10-14). The game is set for a 6 p.m. tipoff in the Charleston High School gymnasium, aka the Tigers Den.
The winner of that first-round matchup will advance to play the victor of the Region 1 No. 3 Baldwyn Lady Bearcats (13-6) at Region 3 No. 2 Riverside Lady Bulldogs (13-7).
The second-round girls' state playoff will be Friday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m.

The Charleston girls' head coach is Mandy Moore. The assistant coach is Linda Buckley. Because of Buckley's sickness during the regional tourney, boys assistant coach Kameron Myers subbed for her courtside.
The CHS boys entered the Region 2-2A tournament as the No. 1 seed and in the Thursday night opener spanked No. 5 seed Myrtle 75-17 to take the Tigers' third win of the campaign over the Hawks.
In the region championship match Friday, Charleston lost a 72-65 decision to No. 2 seed Potts Camp.
The 12-8 Tigers, opening as a 2 seed in the state tournament, play in the first round of state action Tuesday night, Feb. 14, with a 6 p.m. tipoff against the Region 4 No. 3 seed Choctaw County (19-9) in the Tigers Den.
The winner of that tilt will advance to face the victor of Monday's game pitting the Region 1 No. 4 New Site Royals (21-8) at the Region 3 No. 1 Coahoma County Red Panthers (24-2).
The second-round boys' state playoff will be Saturday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m.

While boys' stats were not immediately available, Moore shared girls' stats with Athletic Director LaDon Taylor, who passed them on to The Sun-Sentinel.

Coach Taylor said he is proud of both the girls and boys for their accomplishments thus far and said it is big to be able to open both state tournament games at home.
