Charleston High School dominated Friday’s Region 2-2A track and field meet in Clarksdale, with both the girls and boys running away with the championships.
The Charleston ladies racked up 140.66 team points. By contrast, second-place finisher Calhoun City tallied 83 points, third-place Water Valley 48, fourth-place M.S. Palmer 36.33 and fifth-place Bruce 30
It was even more lopsided on the men’s side, where Charleston won with 167 points. Second-place finisher M.S. Palmer got 66 points, third-place Calhoun City 61, fourth-place Water Valley 52 and fifth-place Bruce 4.
The CHS girls this season are hoping to pick up where they left off in both 2023 and 2024 — as Class 2A state champions. A three-peat would be the program’s first in the sport.
Charleston’s guys built some momentum to capture third place in state 2A one year ago for their best showing since 2016, when they finished in second place at state.
