Thursday is a favorite day at Extended Care Facility because it’s bingo day. No other day draws so many residents to the activity room. This past Thursday, April 20, was special in other ways as well. Bingo calls us all to gather, and as we gathered we were given the honor of celebrating the birthday of our oldest resident, Daisy Brewer, who reached that momentous birthday, 100.
Ron Staten, her son, brought us a beautiful cake to share and the ECF made her a decorated throne, and crowned her with a tiara and banner so that Miss Daisy could be honored on her birthday.
Miss Daisy was born on April 20, 1923, in Cascilla. She always reminds us that “the distinguished congressman, Jamie Whitten, is kin to her not the other way around.” She saw World War II, Korea and Vietnam and still walks up and down the hallway, joins us for activities and welcomes new residents when they participate in activities.
She has seen and experienced many facets of life. We are blessed to have shared her life and look foward to birthday 101. Her day was special, as you can see in the photos we are sharing in this article.
Miss Daisy remarked, “I could be 100 every day. It has been so much fun.”
